Thank you!

Now, he doesn't get to be the main breeder. Should I wait to name the main breeder Vince Gill later, or just name this one, and let Amy be a ... Unsavory woman and mate with a rooster that isn't her husband?

Drove 5 hours back to State College last night and Hubby told me he didn't get Brownie ' s egg during last 3 or 4 days because every time he collected eggs Brownie is laying. Yeah, I know that better than him. Went to check Brownie this morning, she is broody! She's only 5 month old. She's not mean at all though and let me take eggs under her with just little complain. Because of this hot weather and knowing hubby not going to take her too well, I have to try to break her. But I'll drive back to NY tomorrow and will be State College the entire week of August 22. Should I just try to break her a week later? Any way to force her drink and eat?

I wouldn't force her I would just get some small little bowls put food in one water in the other and let her set in the nesting box for another week.

I have another broody :/ These girls drive me crazy! Now that Ana is almost a week into raising her baby (which she's doing a wonderful job with), Daffodil has parked her butt in the nest and won't move. I guess I should be thankful that she didn't hide eggs this year. She always tries to go broody once a year. The only thing is that she's a production red lol. I might actualy let her have a chance at it this year and see how she does. I usually just break her but since Ana only ended up with 1 in the end, maybe I'll give daffodil a few.

I know where you can get some pure SPR eggs for her ;-)

Breaking her is always an option, if you have access to a wire bottom cage you can set her up in it and tell him to let her out on Tuesday...or you can find fertile eggs and give her 4 of them and let her do her thing.
They will get out once a day on their own and then he doesn't need to worry about her for 3 weeks, lol

Put some fake eggs under Daffodil and I will bring you some newly hatched chicks next Sat to let her raise.
That is the surest way to break a broody, right?

@LearninMyFlock ...When I got the kraut jars all lid/ringed up...there was this beautiful noise..POP!..hahaha, every single jar sealed...I haven't 'cold-packed' for a very long time. Was nice to hear them seal anyway. The jars are cleaned off and now stored in the cellar. We have a dehumidifier running all the time..have to this time of year & we have an unfinished side, so that HAS to stay dry!! Humidity is not an issue is what I am trying to say for whatever reason:p ... Have pics here.... I am down there almost everyday, so will be obviously watching impatiently for them to do their thing:pop ...
wow. Looks good. Looks like mine look. And mine don't even always seal up like that with a pop.So if they seem to unseal no worries. ..they are still ok. The only thing not ok is if they get mold or spoil on top.mine only did that one time and that was when the lids weren't tight. The lid may even bulge up. But it's ok. It's still good. I will try to see if I can find out how long before it's really good. May be 6 or 10 weeks I forget. I just let mine sit for a long time before I try it. And it lasts a long time for me. Best wishes. And yeah super easy. That's why I like it:) and doesn't hurt to eat it before it's ready just won't taste as saurkrouty. I don't know what to tell you to watch for But if they unseal don't panic. That's what they do they instead will even bulge up. Cuz of the fermenting process. If they did seal up hopefully it's not too tight that they don't do the fermenting. But if it is then you will have canned cabbage which is also good:) I don't remember if mine ever sealed up or not. I Just follow directions and let it sit:) keep me posted on how it's going:) hope so much that you enjoy it! We sure do. Just thought of more so I hope I'm adding and not double posting. ..... your rings may get all yucky and rusty. This is common also. And you may want to put cardboard under those jars. Sometimes it kinda seeps out as it ferments. I think mine only did that the one time when my lids weren't turned on tight.

You are such an enabler! Hopefully she takes them. Only like 3 though, lol. These are welcome to be extra from the others that you're bringing lol

I walked out to the coop earlier today and Tiny walked up to the door, looked at me and squatted allll the way down while I was about a foot away. :weee
Soon!.... ;)
So what do I do now about the Barred rocks?.... Just google some crap?....I want people who have them!:barnie I am afraid to even go to my other "subscriptions"....I will read up on the barnevelder's later....when I can't sleep. I am still holding out hope for that thread..:fl I am going to pic post the heck outta this place real soon if people don't start talking!!:rant ., believe me, you don't want that..hahahhaha,just ask MC.. yeah..this is me getting mad online...hahhaha:lau
I have two Barred Rocks, and I love them both. They are both hatchery stock so I'm sure they're not great specimens. My favorite hen is my barred rock. I'd be happy to discuss them with you, but like I said, my experience is limited!
I got Duckling a new pet!
Oh noes!
I was out feeding the flock this morning when I spied a white object out in the "field"...its was a tiny white egg!!!! My first egg from my 6 pullets!! I think I know which of the two leghorns laid it. Now to get her to lay in the coop!! Since its tiny I put it in a laying box to help encourage laying inside! There are two golf balls in separate boxes too.
Congratulations!! I haven't been posting much, since I don't have any chickens right now. I still read all of the posts. Maybe I should just post old pictures and act like they were just taken. Ha! :p
