I picked up Jewel today since she came over to me for some attention. She was the one that had gotten into the turkey pen and managed to get sick under their coop for a day. Well, her feathers looked a little funny on her back so I moved them to see what was up. She has a MASSIVE, ugly green bruise on her back. For as tiny a bird as she is, it's huge, almost half the size of her entire back. Her other feathers were just mostly hiding it but where it is, it's totally bare with a few good sized scabs. Those turkeys must've done a number on her before she managed to get under their coop.

Sorry to hear she got picked on....I've always wanted silkies but, a few that were re-homed to me got picked on by the LFs....I had to re-home the four and a show girl silkie boy to a friend....imho scrambled eggs is the goto fixer upper....

I'm sorry you had to some yours I haven't had any issues with any of the chickens going after them yet (besides maybe a rambunctious young cockerel) but my flock is very tolerant of smaller members since I add my chicks to the flock young.

yep, lots of agnst in the countdown and lots of planning...think you should be planning for 50 chooks....a couple of pooches, few goats, and a partridge in a pear tree.....

I tried to get a picture of Jewel's ugly bruise tonight. Of course, my camera was dying and she didn't want me to touch even the feathers near it to hold them back so this was the best I could get. It doesn't quite show the weird green color but you can see the scabs and some of the green.

Looks like one of my BCM pullets started laying today too. It's SPR, RB, wheaten Marans, BCM (pullet), BCM, CCL, EE

I really think the broodies are cute. If it's not bad for her health, I would like to let Brownie sit as long as she wants. I love the way she puffed up and making kookoo noise.
