Looks like I've lost my little wry neck baby. My son found her dead. Again, no signs of trauma to her body. I was watching her all day and she was doing great with her mama. It was after school sometime not long after they got home. I had just checked on her before I went to pick them up and she was fine. I guess, sometimes, no matter what you do, they just aren't meant to make it.

I'm sorry that one didn't make it. She would have made an interesting addition to your Welbar flock. Hopefully the little male turns out to be silver. My silver males over gold (regular colored) females are supposed to give half silver chicks, but I get a smaller percentage of silvers. I've been "hoarding" the silvers to introduce them to the hobby next year. If you can produce silver chicks from him, you will have some of the rarest chicks in the US in your flock. I'm pretty sure that Greenfire will only be introducing the golds in 2017. I could be wrong since they have only release pics of the eggs, not the parents. Personally, I like the colors of the silver males better than the golds, but I think the gold females are prettier, so I hope you get the best of both in the 2 you have left.

Are all the others doing ok? I've been battling pretty severe feather picking in the silkied ameraucanas. I suspect a black sumatra pullet is the culprit. The Silkieds seem very mild mannered and easily bullied compared to regular ams.

All the rest are doing wonderfully. I had to blue kote the tail end of one of the legbar girls. Looks like someone pecked a fresh pin feather and made her bleed so they were all picking at it. She's been left alone since. There is a silkied ameraucana that also looks like it's had a tail pin picked. I'll have to blue kote that one tomorrow. It was later when I noticed it and couldn't catch it so it'll have to wait until morning.

I'm disappointed that I lost that one also. I was really routing for her and she was such an adorable chick. I'm hoping that little boy does grow up to be silver.

The older welbars are already showing their friendly side. So far, they're the only ones that will come over and say hi and don't freak out when I try to touch them. So far, I'm really liking them. The silkied lavenders are sweet little things too but are still nervous. They'll get over it.

None of them have really gotten the courage to leave the coop yet. Once they do though, they're going to be in for a whole new world.

You seem to be farther along in the breeding than Greenfire. How long have you been "hobbying" these silvers?

I received some sad news this morning. The woman keeping my chickens had a massive predator attack. She said she only has a couple roos left. All of my girls are gone too.

She said there were little bodies strewn everywhere, they weren't all eaten.

So it looks like I will be starting fresh with new chickys. I'll miss my girls, but I gave them the best life possible, and I will do the same with this flock also.

That also means I am accepting "donations" from all of you neighborly people!

I would love a couple from @fisherlady s SPR line if any one has any in SE pa (love those broodies!). Also I hope to get some silkies and banty cochins if anyone can point me in the right direction.

So sorry to hear....I have lost a lot of chooks to predators, never the whole flock....I have your Olive egger situation covered....I have 3-4 to give you maybe more....I just had the first hatch(another olive egger) of seven at lockdown...one other has a pip....I'll ditto the interest in Fisher's SPRs!!!

I do hope the 'silver' project goes well and that they become more available .
