Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I fed the parents 22% protein pellets and they still were exceedingly poor layers. I kept them an extra year because so many people wanted them, but decided this year I was doing anyone any favors by making them more available, so I sold the whole pen.
have read a few statements by others on different threads that certain "strains" of chickens can do/be this, that or the other thing, even having "low egg counts", ...so, this is a true thing then?.

.**.22% protein and still not laying well...wow..

If this is true, then it makes sense why people would be so unhappy when it comes time for breakfast and there are not many eggs. They just can not understand how a bird that 'looks' so nice wouldn't lay just as nice. This can happen to any breed from what i've read...low egg counts.

It seems too late in the season for babies, and I can't think of any other reason for one to be so aggressive except illness.

Oh we're definitely taking extra care now, the chickies are safe in their coops, and we've been going out in pairs and carrying a shovel when we take the dogs out. They only ever go out on leashes anyhow, but better with two people and a shovel, since they would not be okay with getting threatened by a goundhog. Ah man, I should have thought of the Game Commission! Will try calling them too and see what they say.

...take care!!

Welsummers are supposed to have yellow legs, so IMO, Welbars should too. a Welbar is really just a Crele Welsummer, so yellow legs are the standard for them to, if there were a standard . . .
thank you...that's why the "" on the standard....i did read over the info on your web site..there is sooo much!! It is good to know I can revisit this when the extra time hits...

Is it the lack of breeding,..wait,.. good breeding for "true" welbars that has made them so unique?...i guess this would also include lack of education on the breed itself..?

The parentage would have to be what they should be in the first place for all of this crossing to make any sense, or work at all for that matter...correct?

Some reading on other threads helps me to understand what I do NOT want to do when starting a breeding program. ..good grief...the last thing I need is to make things 10 times harder than need be. Defies all logic sometimes..hahaha...I would rather ASK how deep the water is, rather than to find out by diving in head first...

How can one expect proper breeding to 'work' if the pair they are putting together aren't exactly what they should be in the first place?! ...can you "cross" a "cross" and think that they will produce an auto-sexed chick(s)?

.IDK...but do THEY ask?..NO...they don't even know..
what really gets me then is they will say they have such & such chicks and sell them to people that don't know....

..
I get "barnyard"..okay, but if your saying specific breeding, well then....sorry , had some questions, did some ranting, this is all JMO, and that goes as far as anyone wants to throw it.

haven't done stewed tomatoes in awhile.
they had more juice in the then i would have liked, but didn't want to cook them to nothing. They taste good though.
I don't have recipe I had years ago...didn't keep folders of everything like I have to now...tried a new recipe, maybe will tweek it a bit next time.
I didn't want to make too much this year, need those toms. for sauce and maybe, if i am lucky , just a few jars of salsa!!
