Looks great! Glad Mira seems to be on the mend. Is that Coco like chocolate, or Coco like Coco Chanel?

Awww! :love

Here I am wide awake at 2:00 am because it's the first night with my new brood. I was nervous about predators, so I took the dog with me to do a mini inspection to make sure everything was as it should be. The turkeys did not appreciate the glaring flashlight in the middle of the night. Everything looked good though.

This is seriously me almost 90% of the time

Good to hear they're safe!

Thank you again also! I will bookmark this so I can refer to it later. Did you have all of those dates in your head? Or did you look it up? That's amazing either way. It's certainly going to take a bit for me to tell some of them apart. I just realized, these are all new breeds for me, how exciting! We all owe you a credit Dennis, for bringing these rare breeds so close for so many of us here. :thumbsup
Thanks! We are excited. I'm glad to soon not have a "shanty" coop too. My last coop was sturdy but looked like Mr. Magoo constructed it. And the worst part is that it only held a few chickens! This time I am doing it right and just having an old shed brought in! :D
.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but that poop doesn't look abnormal to me. If everyone is acting normal, it may just be a fluke too.

Mr. Magoo! :gig That hit the nail on the head! All poos and chickies seem normal, so I'm not *too* worried.

Could it be a broody poo?

I don't think so, I don't see any broody behaviors from the trio. But thanks!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one concerned at 2:00 am. :D

My 20 wk old NHR, Ginger just squatted for me! :yiipchick

It won't be long now!

Thread hogging time! I have some making up to do, I haven't had any poultry to post about in 3 months!

Here is my temporary setup for the turkeys and the older pullets. It doesn't look secure from the picture, but the wire mesh in the front is completely ziptied together so as no to allow anything to climb in between. The carport measures 12x20, so it's a decent size. Ideal for this lovely weather!

Showing how I lined the entire thing with wire, and ziptied it tight to the steel posts. Lots of lumber and cinder blocks around the edge to discourage digging.

The turkeys look dirty because they were sliding around in their poo in the dog crate on the way home. :sick. I will try to hose them off over the next couple days when it gets hot again.

The young pullets that I got from Dheltzel. 3 Black sex links, 2 California Grays and 1 Wellbar. The pullets went in its the turkeys right before dark, and they all seem to be getting along fine. There is plenty of room, and high roosts for the chickens if they need to get away. I will post pics of the chicks later.

Looking good!

Has the tom been strutting and gobbling? They do that a lot to establish dominance, or just for fun. I tell people they always have to have the last word, so any noise is answered with a gobble. It's pretty funny and oddly, not annoying, at least for me. Well, unless someone is shouting at me, then their responses completely overwhelm the message.

How/when can I put my 11 week old chickens with the existing the flock? The existing flock are about 22 weeks old. Do I need to do something special so they aren't picked on? The 11 week olds have been in the garage and we want to get them accustomed to being outside to get them ready for winter. We were going to build a very small coop for them, but don't know if that would really be the answer.

Anyone want our coop at central PA? It's your for FREE if you can pick it up. We are moving to NY and cannot take our chickens, so they went to hubby's cousin. They didn't take our coop because it's too big. It's a 4'x12' coop with 2x6 bottom frames and 2x4 wall frames. Walls and nesting boxes are insulated. Very sturdy. Hardware covers all the openings and 5 windows. Electric wires installed. We made it ourselves and spent more than $400 on the materials. It's a really nice coop. Even if you cannot take it whole, maybe can consider tear it a part and reassemble it. I like people here, so I would like to offer it to someone caring for their chickens first before we put it on craigslist. Note all the chain link fences have gone and the tree house beside it not included. I want to get rid off it quickly before we put our house on market. Another reason it has to go ASAP is it reminds my 3 year old son to look for his chickens every day. He refuse to believe his chickens gone. He cried, called their names, and went to search for them everywhere. Then he came up a story that the chickens didn't come to him just because they are sleeping in the coop. It's just heart broken to see him so upset everyday.
I'm very interested. Pm'd you. :)

Thanks! Yes he has been strutting his stuff. My husband said this morning, "That one turkey is all puffed up." I said "Yes, that's the Tom, he's trying to impress his ladies." They seem to be adjusting well. They are stinkier than chickens, so far. Hopefully "airing" them out will help a bit. I'm sure it didn't help that they were playing slip and slide in their poop on the way back. Beginner's mistake! And he is gobbling when there is a a loud noise, like when the neighbor's dog barks. Also, I bought 8 cinder blocks this morning to further secure the coop door.

I got 3 Welbars from dheltzel, plus one Cream Legbar got mixed into the mix accidentally. I love these Welbars, they are lovely birds. The Cream Legbar, Black Pearl, is the leader of the pack, always first to everything. Great hens, hope you enjoy yours.

Curious about the turkeys. Can they just be intermingled with a flock of chickens? Or do they need different housing arrangements?

Either keep the young ones in a crate/ behind wire for 3-14 days ( depending on personalities). Or, put them together at night, and hope for the best come morning.

Right now they are living together. In the future, they will have their own coops. I'm learning, since it's only my first day with turkeys. :D
