Good morning all:

I have noticed alot of hawks moving/migrating recently....In the past few days I've had low level fly by's from Red tails, a larger black hawk (I think Broad Wings), and some smaller light brown hawks.....if you are free ranging, you might want to keep an eye on them...my two cents....

Whenever you are ready for my more chicks, I should have some. This year I had a n olive egger in my Legbar flock and just hatched her eggs. Those eggs had 100% fertility and hatched at a very high percentage. I was not sure how dark the eggs would be, since the Welsummer "blood" was only 25% in those chicks, but everyone that got them and has gotten eggs already has loved the egg color. For next year, I am going to keep a few Legbars in with the Welbar flock. Those chicks will be olive eggers and sexable like Legbars/Welbars. I could make the cross the other way too, but I find blue eggs hatch better for me overall than the dark brown eggs, and I have lots of Legbar pullets growing out. I need more coops . . .

Thanks! I was just wondering if it was time to start watching for hawks here. We usually get birds nesting and loitering in the spring, but i figured they might be back through in the fall.

I have a few 2-3 week olds....the CCL is 1/2 the size of the OEs and is really slow in feathering.....OEs are BCMoverCCL....i'm thinking something may be wrong with her???Your thoughts???

Stake, wish I knew! I can tell you that your CCL has similar feather development at 2-3 weeks to the CCLxWelsummer I got earlier this summer--and the lav orp and BCM I got at the same time. They had feathers coming in over most of their wings, but chick down over the rest of their bodies. It's the OEs that look to be ahead of the curve for 2-3 weeks, to me. Is it possible they are a week or two older? Not sure about the relative sizes.

Does anyone on this thread have Ameraucanas within about 100 miles of Pittsburgh? I'm not necessarily in the market now, but I'm thinking about the future. I have one Blue Ameraucana from Meyer Hatchery, but I'd be interested in different color pullets.

Dennis--How old are the olive eggers you have for sale?

I am going to need another roost in my hen-house lol!

They were hatched 6/3, so a little over 3 months. Too small to easily integrate with hens at point of lay. I have 2 Reese legbar pullets in with them and I am not certain I can tell them apart anymore. I have them next to the pen with our main laying flock and was planning to release them into that flock when they get older and look like they can hold their own with the older birds.

I wish I could take one (or more) of each!!! If only we weren't at opposite ends of the state.... But if I'm ever in shouting distance of you, I'm going to plan to get in touch to see what you have available!!!

Do you find your Legbars or your Ameraucanas tend to lay bluer eggs, or are they about the same?

Your blue egg black sexlink from that last picture is just gorgeous--I would love to have one. Are their eggs as blue as your CCLs or pure Ams, or are they more like EE eggs?

And that OE Legbar in your last pic was stunning, too. Is it a CCL over Welsummer?

I've noticed that some legbars grow very slow and then suddenly have a growth spurt. Hopefully that's the case with yours.

I'm about an hour and a half to 2 hours from Pittsburgh and should have lavender ameraucanas next spring.
