True about the Lavender Orps, but there are local breeders with them. Pickering gets chicks from Ideal and they list both Cream and Gold Brabanters. IDK of any local breeders that have them, though there might be. The big hatchery orders tend to be for pullets, with only an occasional "accident" that might allow the buyers to start breeding them.
I suppose the Welsummers aren't new either, but I'm hoping they thrive for me, unlike the strain I have before.
I'm never sure if people that get rare chicks want that broadcast online, so I didn't mention you in the post. If someone wants breeds I'm buying chicks of, I'm fine with them contacting me about it, but some might not be ok with that.

She even tries to attack my dogs and pig. It's not like we didn't make a true effort to give her a companion. She simply doesn't want one.
I joined this group because I thought I'd find some tips and advice on caring for my chicken. I didn't think it was just going to be other people lecturing me and talking down to me because I happen to have ONE chicken. (A situation that came about because I chose to give her a home when she needed it.) How awful of me.

I know of 2 local breeders. They were not able to keep up with demand (hence chicks were pricy) in the spring, but were selling them pretty cheap later in the year. I did that with Legbars also, the pullets were fetching $20 easily in March, but I couldn't get $10 for them in September. Supply and demand drives the price of specialty breeds especially.

PM me when you want chicks and I will ask around to see if I can get you some for a good price. They are always straight run, and everyone is trying to give away roos later, so be aware of that.
 
The Chicken Train has left the Pottstown station, with 9 avian passengers. Next stop is the Altoona area, where 6 passengers will disembark to go live with @Auroradream26
 
Just gave Rosie an epsom salt flush based off of an old thread I found in regards to treating botulism. Fingers crossed that it works and that I figured out the problem.

Odd thing that may or may not be related: I found a dead mole two days ago and a dead bird today all less the 20 ft from my chickens pasture

So today I felt like doing nothing. I think I've just been burnt out from a rough week. So I laid around most of the day. Later in the day, I did manage to construct my steps and attach them to the coop. Also fixed my roosts. I sucessfully transferred my flock to their new home too. I closed up the carport pen I was keeping them in, and put some lights on on the new shed. They eventually got the idea, and I will do the same thing tomorrow. Hopefully they will be adjusted after that. Maybe tomorrow I can figure my automatic coop door thingy... Before the rain comes...

Thank you! To make the spiders, you just use a tooth pick when the cookies just come out of the oven and the chocolate chips are still melty, and just dip the toothpick and draw the legs :)

I hope she makes it. They are pretty resilient animals. Best of luck. :hugs
