That's a great idea! I'm not even thinking gardens for next year yet, I've been so busy working and setting up my new coop.


So tonight, I sat out in the rain to make sure the coop door closed in time. Of course it did! Now the trick will be to get them to use the chicken ramp and entrance. I will leave one of the double doors open tomorrow. Hopefully I will be awake and showered tomorrow before the door opens, so I can watch the confusion.

5 silver welbars (3 girls, 2 boys) and a CCL cockerel for a backup boy.

Sat Rosie out for some sun. She started pecking at the grass and seems alert despite not being able to stand. So I made her a mash of pellets and meal worms. Added some eggs. She is eating so maybe she will make a recovery.

I wish I had something helpful to offer, but it is good that you're doing your best for her, and glad that she has hung in and is expressing interest in food--that must be a good sign. Poor thing, I hope she keeps improving!

I lost one of my silkied lavender ameraucana pullets overnight I pulled her in from the flock yesterday morning when I noticed that she was very lethargic. She had food in her crop but was nothing but skin and bones under the feathers. I'm guessing she had a blocked crop. I did what I could but it was too little too late She really must've hid it well because she definitely didn't show it until yesterday.

Poor little Rosie, I hope she pulls through.  How long has she been ill? What are her symptoms?

Last Tuesday she was falling down to the right. I separated her and she has slowing been declining. She can no longer walk at all. I pick her up and she tries to stand and moves her feet some but can't put weight on legs. A lady from penn State Ag extension agrees with me that it must be botulism. She said to cull. I'm gonna give her another day since she is alert. Same thing happen to Orpington gen last year in the fall. Idk if it's all the leaves in the run or what

It's tough losing one of those, they seem so much like kittens, all fluffy and soft. I lost one last week when it got under a pile of it's siblings and suffocated.

I'm from Warren County!!! I just have a small flock of 5.
