Lol, I don't think she liked them THAT much lol. She's happy just coming up to see mine. Having to chase down and catch escaped turkeys over the weekend probably worked against her lol

I suspect your "lady bugs" are box elder bugs. You can google pics of them. They are annoying, but harmless. Also, easily gotten rid of if you remove the box elder trees that are close by because that is the only thing they can eat. Box Elders are a species of maple, but not a very desirable one, so most people choose to cut them down and plant something better in their place.

Actually they are Asian Lady Beedles. Artificially introduced into the environment where we live to combat aphids. They have no predator because of that.
Usually on a warm day in october after some chilly days, they hatch and thousands come into the houses through cracks around windows, doors and atic eves. We have them here in Huntingdon county, I had them in Altoona, don't remember having them in Emporium and did NOT have them in Chester county.
Mostly, they are just a nusance because they infest the house. They like the stove warmth and tend to fly towards hot food, getting killed and landing in the soup pot along the way...yep...eew.
Also, they bite sometimes and give off an awful smell if killed.

Yep, I know the drill. I'll have to get some pictures later this afternoon. I had to fork over the camera and memory card to dh and ds since they were heading off to some reptile zoo thing while dd and I headed to a scout night at a hockey arena lol. Busy night!

I did end up getting one more to hatch, another boy but I'm thinking that's all I'm getting. Hatch rates are terrible from these eggs. Last week, I only had two of 6 and this week 3 of 8 :/ they were pullet eggs though so I'm hoping that was the whole issue. Almost all at developed at least to some point.

*ETA looks like I have 1 now hatching now! Hoping for another pullet. I candled the last of them this morning and found a pip. It's unzipping now but I'm pretty sure that is the last one that's going to hatch.

Our roosters are still being very agressive, but the hubby doesn't want to try to replace them right now. Mostly, with the shorter days and cooler weather, we have been leaving them in the coop more. This also helps since we had the fox a week or so ago. One flew up high enough to scratch my 7yo on the chest yesterday...all my son did was walk by. My son was NOT pleased.
We will absolutely be looking to replace come spring.

I am jumping for joy that the 'lady bugs' didn't hatch this year. A year without a lady bug infestation is fine by me. Of course they aren't actual lady bugs but if you get them where you live, it's probably what you call them. I'm almost disapointed that the chickens didn't get to experience it...they love japanese beetles so I'm pretty sure they would love these too!

Gotta love a good Monopoly game! When we plan a family game, it typically starts by about 6 and we HOPE it's over by 9 lol. It's always so much fun!

I'm sorry your roos ate being nasty :/ I doubt that you'll have any trouble replacing them this spring. That's never a shortage of extra roos around here!

Yeah, I figured that is the case. My goal is to get a fairly docile breed and make sure we handle them more then we did the others. I figured we will cull any roosters we still have once the new ones are to be mixed in. That way there will be no big pecking order fights (other then any little tiffs the hens put forth).

These roos were about 3 weeks old when we got them and already ran from you even if you were sitting with them. They came from an Amish farm and were sold at a poultry auction. I got the feeling they weren't handled much before we got them.

My hatch rates were never great on CCLs and I always had a good lockdown rate.....my two cents...

The few hatches of them that I've done in the past were decent with only a couple late quitters but this is really low. Only 50% off the ones that I moved to lockdown (though several probably shouldn't have even gone to the hatcher).

The hatch is officially over now. The last one to hatch looks like a little pullet. She's a lot lighter than her sister but definitely is chipmunk striped with eyeliner and no head spot. I do promise to get pictures, hopefully soon lol
 
Lehigh Valley here. Technically a quarter mile out into Jersey on the Delaware but for all intensive purposes - from BYC to Craigslist and Dating apps - I live in Pennsylvania

Got the very first Silver Ameraucana egg this morning. Earlier this week I got 2 from the Lavender pen. Set those aside with the 4 bantam lavender eggs and am thinking about turning on a small incubator. Some of the new Ams are 8 months old now and just a few are starting to lay since the days are very short. I'm hoping they respond well to an accelerated spring when I start adding lights next month.
