My Silkie hopped off the nest this morning, so maybe she is not broody, but practicing. No problem either way! I will be getting my eggs from @Auroradream26
today to put under my original broody. I also have 3 (maybe 4) Midget white eggs to put under her also. @dheltzel
, so you thin she can cover 11 turkey eggs? I think 9 might be her max, I might have to not use my two older eggs.
It's hard to say, give her all of them and see if she can flatten herself out to cover them all. They move them from out to in to turn them and keep them evenly warm. After a week, they are easy to candle and you can remove the infertile ones.
We'll see what she can fit!![]()
Hopefully she can cover them all
My crazy ducks are out there in the pool, swimming and splashing and getting themselves a nice bath! It's cold and snowing! Maybe they know that is going to freeze over again so they need their bath before it does lol. Crazy ducks!
Quote: B word! hmmmm dawww girl undies, panties whatevers!! lol
Quote: interesting, when I have time I should research, they are kiddos not a big project dont want more just a better roo
Okay, I stuck all of them under her as best I could. Best part of my day was putting a few under her and watching her do the "broody shuffle", where she moves in the eggs into position.
I shoved them all under her butt.. Thank you again!
@fisherlady. My Silkie was off the nest this morning wheni left for work. When I came home tonight she was back on the nest and pecked my fingers again. Maybe she is not full broody yet, but trying. I will be home more tomorrow to observe, but I think she may also get kicked of the nest, so if I do give her eggs, it will be when I have enough nest boxes. I have a friend who wants some chicks, so she would be helping me out you see....![]()

If your silkie is much smaller than the rest of the birds you can do a modification of a chick creep feeder...basically it is made with wire or slats the chicks can fit through but adult birds can't. Give her a nest with a small boxed area in front of it to make it deep enough she can tuck herself into the back where no one can reach her, make the box out of wire of some type with an opening just big enough for her. A 5 gallon bucket on its side or a medium pet carrier would work if you want to put her on the floor somewhere separate from the regular boxes.
The Silkie was off the nest this morning again. I think she is just enjoying sleeping in the nest box. I will check her feet tonight to make sure she doesn't have bumblefoot or something that is preventing her from hopping up.
I decided to give the new sick chicken some Oxytet. She just looks miserable. @dheltzel. Do I treat for one week? Also giving her some scrambled eggs this morning.
Also, I think one or two of my CCLs have starting laying! I found these four eggs in the window well next to the house, haha. They are telling me I better hurry up with those boxes. I found 8 eggs in the coop last night, so I think I have 9 or maybe 10 laying right now! And that is good news, because I have people who are ready to buy eggs too.
