Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Wow, today was a record day for eggs! I got 13 eggs today. I haven't gotten that many in one day since early fall lol

11 yesterday for us from 14 girls!! I think the last youger red sex link we bought to replace the losses we had in the fall is laying now! We need to re supply out cartons. It's like you have too many or not enough!!

If you're close to Pottstown, I can give you cartons. I also have the flats they use in bulk boxes, 30 eggs to a flat and they stack securely. That's a big space saver if you have a lot of eggs to store. I have over 300 eggs right now in a 2 sq ft space. I get them from a small cafeteria where I work, they save them for me rather than toss them.

That is so true! All winter everyone asks if we need cartons, then we're overloaded. By the end of summer, there's just not enough lol

Just the way their cycles are hitting, some lay every other day, some every third, some maybe only twice a week....it just happens to line up in different patterns sometimes. Our silkie pen is like that, 2 eggs one day, three the next, then 4, then back to two. We have two pullets due to start within a month or so, and with them and the spring weather it should pick up.

Well, there's no cycles at my dojo, the BCMs are laying light and the CCLs have gone on strike again.....getting ready to split my small group into two, x4 chooks groups each and start the second coop/pen up....was trying to ensure the worst of the cold weather was behind us......

Stake, thought you'd like to see how Rusty is feathering out. He is quite a looker! He is still very good, not too noisy (or I'm used to it), no aggression so far, and it seems like he is covering all the girls. And the third picture is the beggars looking for nibbles!

Wow. It might be time to fire up your monster incubator lol

You're right. I have a few things I need to "tweak" before I can use it again, but my Dad is moving in with us in the next week or so, and he's the one that taught me how to build stuff, so it's going to be a project for us to work on together. I am hoping to get it working reliably, then I will have a total egg capacity of 1440 eggs (120 dozen). I hope I can sell that many chicks.

This week's hatch is underway. The Olive Eggers are doing well, I set 28 eggs, 24 were fertile and 23 hatched. Looks like 12 are males, but 11 pullet chicks is pretty good. The lady at Agway loves to sell the Olive Eggers, no other store has them. And with the CCL mothers, most will have the distinctive crests.

. Did you have trouble selling chicks last year? I suspect now that the stores have had some of your excellent stock, they will be clamoring for more...

It's great to have a nice tempered roo, I bet the pullets all appreciate him too.

I sold a lot of chicks last year, but ended up with a few more than I really needed over the winter. It's hard at times to keep up with all of them (I think about 300 in total), but when they are all laying well later, I will like getting so many eggs.

@Dhetzel I'd love to get my hands on some Bantam Amauracana Eggs if you are still getting them and
@Auroradream some Bourbon Red Turkey Eggs too.

Let me know if you've got em.

Had me a lil fire at sunset tonight, still cleaning up dropped limbs from all the wind we've had:

Unfortunately, every egg I've set so far has been infertile. I might have to replace the roo with one of his brothers.
I have been getting good fertility with the LF black Ameraucanas. The breeders are awesome birds, straight from one of the top show breeders, John Blehm. The grand champion at this year's Farmshow was a black LF Am roo, and he looked identical to the ones I have. I am very impressed with all the colors I got from John, but there is a reason blacks usually beat out the other colors in shows.

Hi! Long time no see!

I hope your new incubator works well, what did you get?

I'd be more than happy to send you some turkey eggs once they all get in the swing of things but they'd be quite a mixed bag now. I have Adam Still covering the girls and he's in charge but I also have a mottled black tom in there too. They've got the 2 BR girls, 1 bronze, 1 red bronze, 2 royal palms, and 2 mottled blacks. The eggs could be any of them lol

Nice fire! I'm freezing here lol. It looks so welcoming!

Thank you Sally.

I'm not 100% positive, but I THINK [@=/u/109936/Blarneyeggs]@Blarneyeggs[/@] has tolbunt polish. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Not to butt in, but I think Blarney's daughter's tolbunts suffered some fox attacks....I kinda remember that the roo was taken....and that was a while ago....

Thanks for thinking of me Stake, we were indeed wiped out of Polish last year. Also lost every bird that was hatched throughout 2016. The eggs I set last night are our 'new start'. I'm looking forward to getting our poultry back up to standard. Speaking of Standards, I'm not a Silkie breeder but I did check the Standard of Perfection for you, Stake and both bearded and non bearded are accepted. If you're thinking of preparing some for show, I'd be happy to send you information.

Thank you Anne! After a few glasses of wine last night...cows (free ones at that!) seemed like a pretty good idea. Lol. I'm still waiting to hear back.
