Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I was Interested in getting Bantam Ameraucanas, I like that they've got blue eggs from a compact bird, so keep me in mind if you get fertile eggs from them. We completely missed the Farm Show this year. First time in about 10 years. The ILT vaccine kind of puts me off from showing there, but we still like to have the kids participate in showmanship at least. There were so few birds at this show that we didn't even bother with showmanship. I sure hope poultry makes a come back in the future.
I'm also fascinated by the small blue eggs. It makes regular bantam eggs seem so blase.
I will let you know when I get some fertility. They are starting to lay more, just still infertile.
I've got a similar problem with the ducks, getting 2 eggs most days, but all infertile so far. I wonder if the drakes are not figuring out what they are supposed to do.

Hello PA Peeps! LTNS

Got a new incubator in the mail today!! Set eggs immediately...Had to test it out, of course

@Dhetzel I'd love to get my hands on some Bantam Amauracana Eggs if you are still getting them and
@Auroradream some Bourbon Red Turkey Eggs too.

Let me know if you've got em.

Had me a lil fire at sunset tonight, still cleaning up dropped limbs from all the wind we've had:

Thank you Sally.

I'm not 100% positive, but I THINK [@=/u/109936/Blarneyeggs]@Blarneyeggs[/@] has tolbunt polish. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Not to butt in, but I think Blarney's daughter's tolbunts suffered some fox attacks....I kinda remember that the roo was taken....and that was a while ago....

Thanks for thinking of me Stake, we were indeed wiped out of Polish last year. Also lost every bird that was hatched throughout 2016. The eggs I set last night are our 'new start'. I'm looking forward to getting our poultry back up to standard. Speaking of Standards, I'm not a Silkie breeder but I did check the Standard of Perfection for you, Stake and both bearded and non bearded are accepted. If you're thinking of preparing some for show, I'd be happy to send you information.

Thank you Anne! After a few glasses of wine last night...cows (free ones at that!) seemed like a pretty good idea. Lol. I'm still waiting to hear back.

Haha! You're welcome! Keep us posted if anything comes of it. ;)

Added another roost today to see if it helps keep the youngsters out of the boxes

Hopefully they like this new dust bath!

They are lovely! The coop looks great, not like my Mr. Magoo building project.

Pittsburgh! :D

Welcome!

My first turkey eggs of the season just went in lockdown and a few are already internally pipped! So far, out of the 17 that I set total, only 1 failed to develope. Fertility is excellent! I can't wait to see the babies! I won't be surprised if a couple are hatched by tomorrow morning lol.

Yay! I hope the ones you sent me didn't jostle too much. Tomorrow is day 4 already. I should be able to see veining if I candle, correct?

Awesome!!  do you have images of the lavs?  I am loving the crele such sweet birds!

I haven't had Orps, but the Crele sound like fun. Are they autosexing?  I imagine that Bielefelders are similar in size, color and temperment to a Crele Orpington.

Anyone ever had Crele Cochins bantams?

Haven't had those, but just wanted to tell you, those CCLs are laying the most beautiful blue eggs! I think I have two CCLs laying right now.

My turkey laid an egg later this afternoon and refused to ge to bed when it got dark. I had to pick her up and put her in the coop. She hissed at me and ruffled her feathers, but she didn't peck me like my tough broody BSL.

You won't be able to see good veining in turkey eggs till 7-10 days

Berks County here Welcome to BYC!

Quote: oh I thought you were!! doh, I didnt read that in the regulations! I get it by the bag and nothing ever mentioned or even looked at feed storage lol That makes absolutely NO sense to me!

3 eggs yesterday, 2 today. 9 hens. I think the production line for 2017 is picking up. So far the new layers' eggs don't seem to be fertile, but that's ok by me. They're still so young I don't want to have them be hurt. Dupli is doing his job with the other girls, except, maybe, Colleen, my Delaware. Ah, well, doesn't matter unless Niko goes broody again. I really don't need more hens. WANT more, yeah.

Quote: This is a first for me as well, I appreciate them since I sold off the brahma flock I love the coloring. And I have no clue I didnt do my homework on them, as a matter of fact I hatched out icelandics and crele and have no clue who is who yet

Kids been very sick and I have a very ill pup Ive been dealing with and I didnt have time to separate in the hatcher and I never hatched them before this. Im hoping to google tomorrow and do some research

I think from all the varieties I have gone through I liked the Orloffs the best. I should have kept the few I had, but I had way too many breeds, obviously chose the wrong ones if I liked them best eh?

Cuckoo marans or welsummer? What should I get?

I never had Cuckoo Marans, but I had Copper Marans and they didn't lay well at all for me. Cuckoos from a hatchery should lay a lot better, but probably lighter colored eggs. I like Welsummers, but the strain I had seemed too weak, so I used them to make more Welbars for a while, then sold them. Welbars and Bielefelders are the only dark egg layers I have now. Welbar eggs tend to be darker, but Biel eggs are larger (as are the birds).

CCL's are awesome, aren't they!
I really can't find anything wrong with them, other that the occasional roo that gets a bit too "cocky". Wait until they get a bit older, some of my Legbar eggs are huge! As large as a Bielefelder egg, though the poor little hens are much smaller. Commercial leghorns can lay huge eggs also, so I guess that is where that came from.

Broodiness must be contagious and now your turkey has it. I've never let a turkey hen hatch her own eggs. Maybe I will try this year.
