Chamomile is quite the fighter!! I'm glad..
Thank you all for the kind words about my loss. The incompetent 'farm sitter' is my 18 year old son, who knows better. As he is preparing to 'leave the nest' himself, I'm attributing his lapse in judgement to cutting the apron strings, so to speak. One of our nightly rituals is me saying, 'you need to close the main coop' to which he shrugs and says, 'uh huh'. I respond, 'you need to do it now. Something is getting into that run every single night'. Since I wasn't here to nag him into closing up, he waited until 9pm, which was too late. He was quite remorseful when we got home, I hope he's going to take me more seriously now, but my experience tells me differently.
I still have not learned to handle a gun, but on the eve of our arrival home, I am certain that I could have beaten a raccoon to death with my flashlight. -you can take the girl out of Ridley, but you can't take the Ridley out of the Girl. Right, Stake?
The good news is...my beloved 'Popcorn' was in that coop and survived. I'm beginning to think she is part cat with her nine lives. But of course, my Irish luck may have something to do with it as well.![]()
The more I hear about it the more I think its something I want to try. Been to busy setting up houses, taking care of babies, getting goats, and trying to introduce new birds but hopefully we will have everything under control after this weekend and can start playing with it. Knowing me I'll probably be on here asking more questions!Fermented feed is great! In my experience I use a quarter less feed when I use it fermented. Currently we use 4 gallons fermented or 6 gallons regular, it's the same feed whether wet or dry. I recommend it highly. I make my own main mix and supplement with egg layer crumbles
TMI Alert:
Eek! Today I had a pain on my upper thigh, like I had a bad scratch, perhaps from running into something and forgetting about it. No big deal. Tonight it was still bothering me so I looked closer. It was a tick trying to burrow his way in! Little jerk left a nice pea sized black mark from trying to chew his way in. Guess it's one benefit of having thunder thighs!I didn't get the head out, but I suspect it will work its way out in a couple of days. I will be keeping my eye on it...
So, we went to Tractor Supply in Oxford tonight for a bigger water bottle for Pip ( my son's guinea pig) and some hay --and ...They have CHICKS! Amberlinks, Americanas (sic) "red and brown ones" (direct quote from the worker there) and ducklings. SOOOOO CUTE!!!!!!
