Here are todays pics of the new poults. Unfortunately, no other chicks hatched. I could tell Mama was trying to teach the little idiots how to eat. I dont think they understood so far. Hopefully they will get some water and food soon. Although I have no way of knowing if she showed them how to drink earlier today.

Aww, at least you got two little cuties. They will learn as long as someone is teaching them. You know what's funny? The mottled blacks are the ones that aren't hatching well for me here and it looks like they were the only ones hatching without a problem for you lol

Ha! I checked the r st of the eggs externally before I tossed them. None of the others had broken through the air cell, so who knows what happened? But yes, I'm glad I got at least two cuties. Now to see what sex they are!

It'll be a while till you know! I have one royal palm baby that LOVES to strut. It's been strutting since it was 2 days old BUT one of my Palm hens liked to strut as a baby too and she's definitely a she lol

You *need* some black, lavender or silver Ameraucanas to make really blue eggs. Legbars would work too, depending on what color birds you prefer. Since you have a tolerance for raising roos, Ams would be a good fit for you. I love the look of the Ams, dark legs, "ear muffs" and beards. Pea combs make them the ultimate winter chicken too, at least for blue eggs.

For dark eggs, I thought you had some Copper Marans? Bielefelders and Welbars are my dark egg layers. Neither are hatching well for me now, but if you want either of those, I will try to work it out.

Dennis, the welsummer you sold me is laying again--nice really dark brown eggs almost every day! She is a talky lady too--complains loudly for an hour before each egg!

Sorry another goat question! @fisherlady@Blarneyeggsor anyone my bigger goat with the worse hoof rot was also coughing a lot. I got dewormer for lung worms and just have it to him today. He just coughed and had blood on his nose. Is that caused by lung worm or could it be something else. I'm going to look for a vet tomorrow I think.

I also gave the dewormer to little Ford but he seems fine.

I keep having raccoons get into my run -Ms. Ladyhawk is suggesting a trail cam. I'd like some input on what kind. I stopped at Walmart and grabbed one, as it was labeled 'The Easiest to Use'.
I have a Moultrie- I would have not known how many raccoons sniff around my coop at night without it! (I thought I only had one, the camera caught three coming and going every night together). The one thing I do not like about my Moultrie, however, is that I have to use a separate 'viewer box' which needs its own batteries if I want to review the pictures on the camera without a computer. (It is a lot of batteries to keep fresh- like 15 or something crazy).

Great! Are the eggs larger too? Maybe that is what is upsetting her. Or maybe she just likes to listen to herself.

Coughing up blood moves the problem up to vet status. It could be an upper airway irritation but I would be concerned that it is further down in the bronchioles and needs more agressive treatment.

I would also let the vet know who you bought them off of. If she is selling animals with hoof rot and respiratory problems I would be very concerned at the conditions her remaining animals are living under. I don't know if their are any rules governing the sale of goats unless the conditions are considered an infectious disease but the vet can give you further direction on that.

Blarney, with the number of coops you have and the amount of property I would look into a security camera system, most have moderate level night vision built in. We use a Q-See system with a DVR recorder so we can review based on activity or time stamps. The cost isn't cheap, but they can be found under $500, and they can be viewed from a monitor in your house or over a smart phone, tablet or computer system.
