Coughing up blood moves the problem up to vet status. It could be an upper airway irritation but I would be concerned that it is further down in the bronchioles and needs more agressive treatment.

I would also let the vet know who you bought them off of. If she is selling animals with hoof rot and respiratory problems I would be very concerned at the conditions her remaining animals are living under. I don't know if their are any rules governing the sale of goats unless the conditions are considered an infectious disease but the vet can give you further direction on that.

And I'm at the point where I can be upset that I was sold a goat with these issues right? I'm new to this but it seams kinda wrong? I'm glad we got him and I'm going to do whatever I can to make him better but I'm guessing this isn't normal.

I would be upset....
I know that there is the saying "buyer beware".... but even so I feel you were taken advantage of and in my opinion a seller shouldn't have sold a sick animal. Unfortunately it is a sad reality that most don't care and animals are treated as a commodity rather than a living being.

I just hope he'll be ok. He's my daughter's and she's already head over heels for him. And now I'm worried about the 5 ducks I got from her. They seem healthy enough for now.

I hope you have them quarentined away from your flock, I wouldn't trust her word for much considering what you have found with the goats.

I hope your daughter's goat improves, with some TLC he should do well.

I'm not sure which end of Beaver County you live in, but the Ambridge/Aliquippa end isn't too far from me, about 45 minutes, so I could also travel to you if need be. I really appreciate you running this chicken train!!

I can take 376 through the city... I usually check the traffic first since I've been caught too many times by closed tunnels or bridges and the last thing I want to do when I'm only an hour from home is take a detour through the city! Whereabouts are you located? Is there a good exit to meet up at? I'm in Western Beaver County, Aliquippa is a good 20-25 minutes southeast of me so probably better to meet up with you on the way.

A lot of the brands are good.  We have a Moultrie that works well.  One thing about having raccoons as a predator, they seem very easy to catch in a live trap.  We've used tuna fish and cat food as bait and it works every time.  The only think with a live trap is make sure you have one big enough.  I've known people who had such big raccoons that they could go into the trap, eat the bait and their hind end sat on the door so it couldn't shut.  A large raccoon size should be fine.

. we're setting live traps nightly and not getting anything. I'm assuming raccoons, mostly because we never have any breaches during the day, but it must be a huge raccoon or 2 or 3, because the size of the rocks they are moving to get in is impressive.

I have a Moultrie- I would have not known how many raccoons sniff around my coop at night without it! (I thought I only had one, the camera caught three coming and going every night together). The one thing I do not like about my Moultrie, however, is that I have to use a separate 'viewer box' which needs its own batteries if I want to review the pictures on the camera without a computer. (It is a lot of batteries to keep fresh- like 15 or something crazy).

I keep having raccoons get into my run -Ms. Ladyhawk is suggesting a trail cam. I'd like some input on what kind. I stopped at Walmart and grabbed one, as it was labeled 'The Easiest to Use'.

Blarney, with the number of coops you have and the amount of property I would look into a security camera system, most have moderate level night vision built in. We use a Q-See system with a DVR recorder so we can review based on activity or time stamps. The cost isn't cheap, but they can be found under $500, and they can be viewed from a monitor in your house or over a smart phone, tablet or computer system.

Thanks Fisherlady, I like this idea, especially for kidding season. We've got cameras in the house, driveway and living areas that go to a DVR, but none on the animals. Our cameras are set up more for the 2 legged predators..
