(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Im prepping to get my first flock now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

0, I think i want a flock of 4-6 hens

(3) What breeds do you have?

I dont have any currently, but I have a few im interested in. Mainly, any of the lavender coloration I've seen.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Something for my family to do together as my sons grow up. As well as high quality eggs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Being a father, and reef keeping. Those take up most of my free time lol. Luckily my oldest boy is getting to the age where now, we can go do things together without it turning into a temper tantrum lol

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Im a father to 2 boys, 2 dogs, and a reef tank. One's 26months old, the others 5 weeks old. I take my reef tank seriously, and it's probably safe to say I'm moderately successful with it. I had ducks a few years ago, but I didn't plan the coop/run area well and the wife didn't like how right outside our door was a mud wrestling pit haha. So probably wont do ducks again right off, and will probably build my chicken coop further away from the house haha.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I've been doing research the last few weeks, and I've learned over the years doing my saltwater aquarium, that even though Facebook may have more local activity, the forums are where the knowledge and less angry people are at haha. I figured I'm bound to have questions as I do my research, so I might as well join up. This way I dont have to get called names on Facebook for trying to do right by my flock.
