18 and driving me crazy some days, but still melts my heart when he stops to give his puppy love. BTW, Pajama Day at school.

We've gathered the materials for another hoop coop. This one has 4x4s at the base so will be dragged with the tractor to new ground from time to time.

Hi, we're from Shippensburg! I'm a newbie as well and the only show I know of is the Harrisburg Farm Show in January. I'm sure there are lots of places you can go to. Just Google. Always helps me. Welcome to BYC's!

Shippensburg eh? I'm just over the mountain from you in Gettysburg. My parents live in Newville.

[@=/u/249441/dheltzel]@dheltzel[/@]. Just wanted to give you an update on the broody eggs. I just candled and tossed four of the Bielefelder eggs. Looks like one blood ring, one early quitter, and two never developed. Hatch day is approximately this Wednesday. Fingers crossed! She is such a good sitter so far. Always back n the same nest, gets up every day for just a bit, and she growls anytime someone comes near.

All the Lavenders were fertile?
Those lavenders are going to be some of your favorite chickens. Any of the Ameraucanas are super friendly, one of the "side effects" of show birds, docility is a useful feature whereas in production settings it's no real benefit.

I think so, but I can't be sure. I just put them under and I am hoping for the best. I will keep you updated!

With the weather clearing up a bit, plans for a new run are being formulated... Also, my fiancee's family is encouraging more chickens (I know, I hit the jackpot ;) ), and I quote, "10 total should be good." So I guess I'll be looking for 7 new additions, along with possibly some fertile eggs for Tiny, my Silkie hen, because my fiancee also likes the idea of her hatching eggs.

My jedi mind-tricks seem to be working quite well...
:yesss:

Awesome! You're off to a good start!

So today to brighten our week we finally let everyone out to free range! The RIR we got with the house have never been out before. Everyone was great we had 15 ducks, 16 hens, two roos, 3 dogs, 2 goats and 2 kids running around yard. I drove past my house twice just to look at them from road lol. My little roo tried picking fight with a Muscovy and Oliver my RIR roo walked up hill went into porch and knocked on the front door! Hedwig went out with everyone had I found out whos picking on her so I'll try taking that one out for a bit I think. And my hubby is finally driving home!!!!!!!!!!!!°

So glad to hear it. Glad the weekend is going well for you.

First thing this morning, I had to pull my lavender ameraucana roo from the breeding pen. He is now restricted to weekly visitation to the girls. I was wondering why my egg count from that pen had been dropping so dramatically. I caught him in the act the other day breaking an egg and caring the girls to come eat it. Hopefully they have enough sense to not eat the eggs on their own :/

Gorgeous pictures! Which kind of bird lays those super dark eggs? They're gorgeous!

What a surprise. I got an egg from each of the lavender girls today. The roo keeps trying to get back in with them since he knows they're his girls but he is definitely the egg eating culprit.
