Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I have one broody due Wednesday, one due next Thursday, and I am leaving the third alone. She didn't have eggs yesterday morning. I will get out there soon to collect eggs and such.
I only want the girls happy. If I am in need of one or two babies to avoid breaking (Bonnie Tyler is a mean broody, and breaking a turkey is scary!), I will be bugging you. Okay?

So, what's happened with everyone over the past week that BYC has been down?

I lost one of the founding member of my flock over the past week. Daffodil was my little PR hen that went broody last year and raised some welbars from @dheltzel. She had a lifetime pass but unfortunately didn't use much of it. Maple is the only hen I have left from my origional flock.

I now have 3 broody hens on fake eggs. Ana, of course, a wheaten Marans, and a welbar. My silkie roo is also broody....he's been sleeping on a nest, making broody noises, and yes, he does gently pull eggs under him if they are set near him lol. I'm not sure what to think about that right now.

I don't officiant have any broody turkey hens at the moment but there were 4 girls in one spot trying to lay on 3 eggs tonight. I'm not sure what's going on with that yet.

Sprinkles moved out to the main turkey coop but he's in a seperation pen since he's still so much smaller than everyone.

The goslings are HUGE and are finally getting some feathers.

And we lost 4 of the meaties that we brought home last week so we're down to 41.the test are looking awesome though and plumping up already.

I think that about covers my week.

I'm sorry for the losses! :hugs
You certainly sound busy!
I lost one girl. Looks like it was Melissa Etheridge. She was two.
Spring cleaning has been a pain. I'm either busy or it's raining. I did get a duck house built. That means a dryer coop! :D I have the main coop almost cleaned out. I am still thinking about how I want the new run.
I dealt with bumble foot, broke a broody, and have three more!

Since I am in the Mushroom Capital of the World, I feel obliged to give you a local quote. "All Mushrooms are edible; but some only once."

So I cooked these for my hubby. They had a very strong, good mushroom smell. He loved them. He said he definitely understand why people seek them out.

Busy week for us all! Sorry to hear about Daffodil. That's funny about the broody rooster, my one rooster keeps going near the meaties little pool. He is cozying up in a corner with wood chips and making purring noises. One of his girls lays down with him. Weird!

Sorry about your girl. I had one girl I thought I might lose. Sunday, when I went outside I heard this strange noise, like a whining. It was one of my Cali Grays. She was wheezing terribly. Sneezing frequently also. So I dosed her up with the Vetrx. Yesterday, no wheezes! Amazing!

My eggs are due to hatch yesterday, under the broodies and in the bator. I cheated last night and candled a couple while I was adding some water. I saw at least 4 had internally pipped!! Since I have a flexible work schedule, I was able to stay home to play to watch my bator, and keep an eye on my broodies.

So glad to have you all back! I missed you.

Just checking in. So far the bantam Ameraucana chicks are doing very well. Lost 1 of the lavenders from my eggs, but still have 22 left. The shipment from John Blehm (can't remember if I posted about these) are all still alive, a big improvement from last year's bantam shipment, when I lost 1/3 within a few days. There are 28 ameraucanas (lavender, buff, wheaten and silver) and 4 bantam silver spangled hamburgs.

First 2 viable eggs from those expensive Genetic Hackle (aka "fly tie") trio are going into lockdown tonight. They have been laying well, and I have 14 more eggs to hatch in the next 2 weeks.

Of course when I had chicken questions the forum would be down!
Ruth keeps attacking Jaebels. Will run across the yard to do so. She's gonna be soup soon if she doesn't stop it. How can we get her to not be so mean? She's a good layer.

Niko went broody so I put 9 eggs under her. Checked 4 days later, 12 eggs. Checked today, day 9, and there are 14. I think Jaebels lays right next to her so Niko swipes them. I know I did not put that many green eggs under her. Will the newer eggs hatch or is it a lost cause? I will have to get a pencil out there and mark the 14 and then check under her every dang day.
