I've never heard of Shamos before but you know me I'm always interested in more birds! Lol, and I'm super close.
 
Been busy, popping in yo show off our hatch... one more I'm the incubator starting to zip. Hopefully a few more late hatchers tonight.

I hope that as they feather out I'll be able to tell the difference between the pure delaware and the mixes (delaware roo over dark cornish hen). There are 6 dark cornish and just 2 delaware hens, so I expected more chipmunk stripes. Some of the yellow chicks have distinct stripes and some just have a bit of splotchy

color... more than my delaware chicks in the past but it's hard to draw the line between the tiny black splotches on delaware chicks and the not striped, but more spotty chicks.

If I We're closer I'd be interested in 1. They look like they could add some needed height in my CX breeding project.

I feel obligated to cheer everyone up at least a little bit. So good news! The outside crew is getting used to going outside on their own! I still have to herd them and possibly throw a couple out of the coop, but they're making progress! And on Sunday my mom's priest (who's a friend of mine) came over and had mass outside next to the coop and we blessed it! It was hilarious.

Also, Tucker (our giant German Shepherd on a diet) has lost more weight! We went from 151lbs to 147.4!! He's looking much better and I'm super happy!

Also... Coop pics! (They're still trying to understand the poultry cups anddd that ya don't sit and poop on top of the waterer)...

We haven't started working on the run yet so I'm using a couple x-pens put together and just supervising when they're out.

The coop looks great so far. The babies look overwhelmed by all of that room!

It's crunch time here and my coop is bursting at the seams! Over the past month or so, I've been taking groups of older chicks out to the main coop to integrate them. They stay seperated for a few days before I release them in to the general population. So far it's working out fine but wow, I have more than I thought! The chicks from Sally are all out now, along with all the silkies and the RSL. I just moved the Marans from their cage in the turkey coop to the main coop. They'll get released with everyone in a few more days. The little buff turkey poult that was in with them was crying his little heart out when I took his friends, so I left him loose in the turkey pen. He's been loose for about 10 minutes now and is happily wandering among the older turkeys, weaving through their legs and munching on food. They don't seem to mind him being there at all. That just leaves 1 group left to integrate (lavender ameraucanas and a couple young legbars). We have less than 3 weeks til we leave for Oregon and I need to have everyone out and in a routine before my BIL starts caring for them for us. After we get back will be flock slimming time. I have to decide which cockerels will stay and which ones will head off to freezer camp.

I felt like I was bursting at the seams until we processed the meat chickens. Now it seems quiet! I will be raising up these young male chicks for eating too.
That is such a sad sound when the turkeys cry! I had to leave my little ones in the cage in the garage since I won't be home until 10 tonight.

I think she has a beard and muffs. Hope she's a Rock, they are so gorgeous.
 
I had to share this photo that was taken yesterday at our family party. My turkey buddy was perched on my arm and we were showing her to my niece. The little girl tried to gently grab the turkey, and it calmed down and was just staring at her when she was giving it a kiss. It was so cute!
