Coronation Sussex we bought in Howell Michigan on the long Journey home. I hope she is a she! I spent over 100 bucks on Coro eggs and decided that shipped eggs are hopeless.
I have pretty much given up on shipped eggs also, and even shipping them myself results in such poor hatches, it seems not worth it. I used to have much more success. Since my experience and equipment is much better now, I can only assume it is the postal service working extra hard to make them less viable.

Hey guys, I'm trying to play catch-up on the thread. But, I need to make sure I ask if anyone would like some Calico Bantam Cochin. I hatched more than I can keep and though they are so adorable, I have silkies and showgirls in the bator. Oh and I have D'uccles also that are really getting big.

Oh no I have some sad news too. This is Kiwi our rumpless Araucana that we hatched on Jan 21. She laid us the coolest dark green eggs and they then became a light blue. I was watching the chickens today and Kiwi was walking around as normal with her friend. Her best buddy laid an egg at 10am. Kiwi always waits until her older Blue Orpington best friend lays, then she lays in the same spot. Today she stayed down in the run. Then squatted down as if in a dirt bath. I approached her because I don't want her to lay in the run, and surprisingly she didn't move. I gave her a stroke or two and she still didn't move. Very odd. So I moved her upstairs in the coop to let her lay her egg in peace. Then her head went down and beak touched the floor. I got her some water because I thought she's overheating and dabbed some on her mouth. She noticed me doing that as if paralised. Then I decided to bring her inside into the cool and prepared a box. When I got back she looked asleep. Then there was some intermittent flapping bursts. And then silence.

After the initial shock I put some gloves on and checked her cloaca. Kiwi had a habit of some days of sitting as if she was going to lay, and then not laying. Her cloaca was oozing a white liquid and when I felt further up I could feel what felt like broken egg shell. I squeezed a lot but I couldn't get any of the egg shell to come out to confirm. I'm not cutting her open. Could a broken egg inside cause instant death? She went from lively to dead in about 15 minutes. I thought I had a lot more time to figure out the situation than that.

Kiwi was our smallest, cutest chicken.

Oh no I'm sorry to hear that. It could have been anything, hard to tell unless you had her examined. But that wouldn't help much as it wouldn't bring her back. I'm sorry for your loss.

We may be losing our rumpless chicken as well. She has been randomly falling asleep and not being very active anymore. We don't think she will make it through the night, and if she does, she is going to be quarantined and given lots of medicine tomorrow.

She has not been laying solid eggs anymore. They are all soft-shelled. We give them oyster shells but it isn't helping. I don't know what to do.

It's so hot. Poor birds look miserable. Trying to figure out a way to help them other then lots of cool water.

Finding more and more raspberries. Hubby has been driving tractor into tall grass to give me a path then I clear out some of the other plants to get into them. Can't wait to make jelly!! Been crushing and freezing each days pick.

Well as long as they have shade, and water, they should do ok. My chickens do pant and hang their wings occasionally but that's normal. I think you can also make a frozen treat for them, like seeds frozen in a block of ice?

I freeze cupcake molds of berries and veggies.

I bought a kiddie pool to put in the run with just a couple inches of water. We will see how that goes. Mine have never had that before and not sure they will utilize it to cool off their legs.

Our Lavender Ameracauna has continued to be broody. I swear it's because she's too lazy to lay eggs for us. She probably did for 4 weeks last year and 4 weeks this year. Anyone interested in a beautiful pain in my neck? I hatched her out of Garry Farm eggs.

Well, if you happen to pick up a couple eggs from Dennis.... It seems like all my hen's are taking turns being broody! First one English Orp, then my Wyandotte, then the OTHER English Orp ..now even my Welsummer is thinking about motherhood! I did get shipped Coro Sussex Eggs from high rated ebay sellers TWICE this summer and not ONE hatched.

Regarding eBay:
Pay attention to the comments. Since it's always stated, "rate on arrival of eggs, not results from hatching..." others may have had the same results as you but rated based on intact eggs. I think there should be an option to add comments and change rating for eggs. I don't rate until hatch. There are some on here that paid for higher cost eggs and hatched barnyard mix.

I have no room for any more breeds this year, but calico frizzles are wonderful. If you are breeding them next year, I might have room for some.
