Hey guys. Can anyone help me with telling me what breeds these are? These are the 5 chickens I got from my neighbor today. They are very skittish, not used to people at all. Also, I don't think they were fed very well. They ate a lot of food today, and their little crops were huge and bulging tonight. I could feel the keel bone on a couple of them too. I'm sure they will be fine with some TLC. Pretty sure the one is a Blue laced red Wyandotte. The fifth oa not pictures because I can tell she is a CCL.

The first and last pictures look like our Easter Egger. Ours didn't have the poofy cheeks when we rescued her but with TLC she finally poofed up! She's a skinny bird, always has been.

The third picture looks like our Rhode Island Red / Production Red.

The second picture does look like a blue laced wynadotte.

I have to agree with FluffyButt789

2. BLRW
3. RIR

Hope you can whip those girls back in to shape and socialize them a bit :)

I locked up last night and as came around to double check the nesting boxes I almost stepped on an egg...outside the fenced area. Now I fed them at like 3:30 and then went to barn. I never saw any escapees. We worked outside all afternoon.

Then this morning my dad brings me an egg they found in the shed. He tore off the front wall to replace a post. The egg was under out hay bin. Lol. Who knows how long it was there.

Now I’m wondering how many eggs I’m not getting.

I was outside spending some time with the flock earlier (imagine that!) and realized, I still have some culling to do before winter really hits. I really don't need 4 lavender ameraucana boys so I will keep the one I got back from @fisherlady and one other one. The other two will head to freezer camp. Of the 5 CX pullets I kept, only a couple still look good to keep for outcrossing so a couple of them will go. I really need to figure out which silkie boys I'll be keeping since there are about 4 of them too. The crele Orpington roo will get to stay a bit longer since I'm still determined to cross him to the CX but he won't be around forever. And there's one extra tom turkey to be dispatched but since he's Thanksgiving dinner, I may wait until next Sunday/Monday to process him so he can be fresh for dinner. I'll probably work on the extra roos tomorrow if I can find the energy (been seriously lacking in that department lately). Then I think I'll seperate the breeds right around Thanksgiving so that maybe I can hatch for New Years and have babies early for spring. Both of my Ayam cemani girls are broody right now and have been for a while so hopefully they give it up soon!

My little CX outcross babies are 10 weeks old now and sweet as can be! Echo is the biggest at 3 1/2 lbs. Their father, whoever he was really kept their weight down and them slower growing than their mother but they're healthy, agile, and smart. They're believe that I'm their mama and have been flying up on my legs/shoulders whenever I squat down to talk to them or wiggling under my legs to stay warm lol. I'll have to get some new pictures of them.

Okay good news, finally!!

I wound up finding a SLW Roo to go with my girls, he's a bit younger but he's feisty and fit right in. We've got the coop insulated and both heat lamps on for the winter. And Keith did a great job of tarping the top of the run so they have a sort of roof when they're outside. I also finally got a girlfriend for Klaus, he's doing so much better now. I'm supposed to be getting a RIR roo but I don't know if that's actually going to happen. Oops. So far though, everyone's doing okay. And with the addition of the new goose I think we might have to wait till the summer for more roos.

I know Veteran's day isn't until tomorrow but I doubt I'll be able to get on much since I'll be busy with my own Veteran :) So I wanted to say Happy Veterans Day to any Vets out there and family members!

My son was asked to sing the National Anthem at a school event honoring veterans the other day and while we couldn't see him from where we were, we recorded him singing. We're very proud of him!

WOW! He sounds like an angel.

HA! Love how you slipped the ‘addition of a new goose’ at the end of your comments as if no one would notice! Spoken like a true poultry addict. I’ve always heard bad things about Rhode Island Red roosters, very aggressive. Realizing that you’ve got a predator problem -even a mean rooster is no match for a fox or coyote. Hopefully your goose will keep everyone in line and warn the birds of predators (if not chase them off).
