Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

So I gave everyone an overall and up close health check. Everyone looked good except for some lice on a couple, which is usual for this time of year.

The one thing I noticed is that my Silkies vent had a noticeable odor. Different than usual chicken smell. Don’t worry, I’m not smelling them on purpose. :sick I was looking closely to check for mites and lice. She’s close to 9 years old, so I’m not surprised she’s a little the stinky.

No idea where the blood came from! Who knows...

:sick I Hope there's nothing wrong with your old silkie girl but I'm glad you couldn't find anything major. Maybe it was a fluke.

I had been noticing blood occasionally this winter. Each time, it was just from a hen's bleeding comb from mating issues with our young rooster. It dries up pretty fast so that could have been what happened to you. A hen could have bumped her comb on something, bled a little, even on the eggs as she was in the box, etc.

Welcome from Cambria county! I'm a big fan of ameraucanas for their pretty blue eggs and friendly personality :)
I'm a big Ameraucana fan too! I love my blacks the best, they are stunning in the sunlight. Their small pea combs are a great in that they never get frostbite in the winter, but it does make it hard to sex them until they are about full grown. I'm going to keep more silvers this year because they are sexable at a much younger age, and every bit as friendly and personable as the other colors.

Note to self: Power tools and Chardonnay do not mix.
