They are cute...

My husband's adult nephew wants to hatch turkey eggs, he tried with an incubator but something happened an none hatched. He called and asked if we ever had broody hens..... LOL... who, us?? Broodies??? :lau

So... He brought us 6 eggs, they went in my husband's home made incubator, and 8 days later it looks like we have veins in 5 out of the 6. We have a silkie broody sitting on stone eggs in the coop. She went broody about 2 days before we got the eggs so she is good for the 28 day thing. Our plan is to keep the eggs in the incubator till day 25, then shift them out to her for 'lockdown'. That way we don't have to worry about her nest being invaded by other laying hens or getting chilled if she gets back on the wrong nest at some point.
Hoping we get at least a couple chicks for him. I never did ask what breed of turkey.

Yesterday, 15 minutes before the start of my son's birthday party, I went out to give more water to the babies. Surrounding the food were all these lavender babies and...a baby squirrel! He was trying to eat the starter crumbles. I have raised dozens of baby birds, and did have a friend who raised a squirrel, but this one was my first squirrel. He curled into the nape of my neck and SNUGGLED. Well, my husband freaked out and we ended up finding a Kennett Square wild life rehaber who took him quickly--I know he was dehydrated and I didn't want him to wait until all the kids had gone for attention.

She’s gorgeous! I hope she will be beautiful for whoever gets her. Do you really think she will turn out that way with a royal palm father? I’ll have to look up turkey charts...

That’s a great idea! Maybe I should do that. I was going to give the turkey chicks to the broody turkeys after they hatched, but I wonder if after lockdown would be better. I’m not sure if I should though, because these guys are to be sold. When I last took a turkey chick from the Mama turkey hen, she cried for an hour. It was terrible!

Why on earth am I seeing bullseyes on only a few eggs?

Maybe you need glasses ? :lau :smack

What’s the deal with sexing Silkies? Can you do it by size alone? I bought a bunch of Silkies from TSC several weeks ago. Clearly one is a boy, because it’s much fatter and bigger than the others. But does that suggest that the rest are all females?

I’m curious to see how I did guessing the sex of the leghorn chicks too that were on clearance. Looks like mostly female, buts it still early.
