In the past, I had Dish Internet and television. About a year ago, I dropped Internet to save money.
I hated Dish years ago, and they said they had improved. Um, no. Regardless, it’s what was available here. My current receiver needs replaced, so it just seems like it’s time to switch.
I definitely did not grow up having Internet, but we all need to face the fact that television, cellphones and Internet are now listed under “human rights” in the United States.
So I want to ditch television (getting rid of Dish, but also saving money), and get internet. I have Amazon Prime, and a password for YouTube tv. So that’s covered.
Dish no longer has internet. They quoted me two prices for Verizon and Hughes net. Both prices were above what the actual company quoted to me.
Verizon is $50 for 3.1-7 mbps upload speed, up to 768 kbps download. Unlimited. No other packages available.
Viasat is 12 upload, 3 download for $100 plus $10 rental fee for the modem(?) and use your own router. Unlimited.
Then Hughesnet... 25/7, $50 for 10 gigs, $75 for twenty. That includes the equipment.
 
Ok, I know this isn't the hatching thread, but way more experience and words of wisdom from folks I trust here....:bow

Situation.... hubby made an incubator, not to replace broodies, but to supplement them by starting eggs and keeping them safe until a few days before due to hatch, then slip them under a waiting hen to take care of the hard part. It has worked well, if an egg starts development at least 8/10 end up making it to hatch. Last hatch we had 18 fertile and had 16 healthy hatch, one premie hatch which didn't survive and one late quitter, so the swap out seems to not be a problem.
But here is what happened.... his nephew has turkey and duck, and had no luck hatching them, so he brought them to us. He brought us 6 turkey eggs he found (unknown age when found), we set them, and 4 of the 6 developed. We had a broody waiting. Today was day 25, we planned to come home from camp, candle and put them under the broody to hatch (I thought due on Wednesday)
Problem... one was hatched, and another is zipped and cheeping!! :barnie
The hatched chick looks good (No yolk, clean butt) but isn't upright yet, hopefully just tired... needless to say we had to speed prep the broody, put her shield in front of her nest, pull her stone eggs and swap the turkey poult and eggs under her. Fingers crossed that it works out, but really not sure what to expect since we have never dealt with turkeys.

Questions.... We don't know if they need anything other than meat bird type high protein food in the first couple of days, his nephew was supposed to get us supplies but this happened a bit quicker than it was supposed to.

And... this incubator has been rock steady at 99.5 to 99.7F, circulated air with a turner and we had humidity at 20-27% throughout. So why such early hatching? Arent turkeys supposed to be 28 days? These are supposed to be royal palms.

Congratulations! They may have been a day or two in to it when you'd gotten them but mine always tend to hatch a day or so early, even with steady temps. Sounds like you have everything else figured out. Since a broody will be raising them, she will teach them to eat so they shouldn't need any chick tutors. You should be good to go!
 
I helped the second zipped egg out the morning at 0550, it was shrink wrapped, which we suspected was a possibility since the incubator was at 25% humidity. Hubby checked broody before work and brought it in for the assist. Poult was very tired but otherwise seemed ok, dabbled umbilicus with triple Abx ointment and gave it back to hen, last night's poult was up and running around, so that one seems to have survived its ride on the egg turner ok, lol.

Speaking of hatching problems! Let me freaking tell you guys what's been happening. Ugh it makes me so upset. So I know i already mentioned the idiot that zipped almost completely and died on me and the fact that we had a goof with his yolk sac still attached. Well he died, unfortunately, and so far there's not been a single peep, rock, roll, chip, pip, or anything out of the rest of the eggs.

Just irritates the heck outta me. Good news is, Keith sorta got some nice graphics done for jackets we're having embroidered for the show coming up. Hopefully it all works out. Worst case scenario we have shirts and no jackets but we'll see. I'll show you guys finished product pictures soon! However.... since it's just here lemme post the graphic for you.

Now keep in mind he only did this in about maybe 3 hours with the picture underneath the layer!

It's a little blurry because of the way he had to smudge shade it, and because I had to shrink it down to size but I still love it. This is actually one of my boys that i'm taking to show with me.

My goof on the left with the Batman charm around his leg. That'd be Bruce (haha I know) Bruce, Jim (dead center, captain america charm), and Kerrigan (My little girl on the far right) are all coming with me. Mr. Superman in the background doesn't even qualify for any kind of show :barnie so I'm selling him. If anyone needs a Black Am roo that's just a farm rooster lemme know.

I set turkey and ducks with a 27 day cycle, the chicken eggs go in Fridays, the turkeys, ducks and peafowl on Saturday, and guineas on Sunday. Even then the turkeys hatch over a wider time period than the chickens.
