I actually had ducklings outside at a week old in March a few years ago. They never used the heat lamp, so it was removed within a few days. Of course, I didn’t let them out in the snow.
So try letting them out now. If they sound distressed after twenty minutes (settling in time), wait another week.
Tail curl on the Pekin happens at 3-4 months. They also sound different.
Males are bigger (My Muscovy male were vastly bigger).

How to keep ducks dry in the winter:
Make a frame for the water bowl that covers half the bowl (hinged lid).
Put a brick in the water bowl so that they can’t sit in it.
Use a coffee can with a weight in it to prevent tipping.
Cut a hole in a drink container (An upright milk jug, or I laid a 2qt juice container on its side, and added holes).
As long as you remember that they have to be able to dunk their whole heads.
If they do go swimming, I don’t think anyone has had a problem with frost bite. Ducks have thicker skin than chickens. They actually like it colder than the chickens do.

A friend told me that she is noticing twice as many hawk nests on Route 1 as she did last year, and friends are losing cats to hawks in Oxford PA this year. Another friend in Landenberg has a fearless red tail in her backyard and she is very attached to her bluebirds, robins and cardinals. This is a picture of my chicken killer in the cherry tree.
Do hawks have any controls other than food source on their population? Will they still be hanging around in winter? We are enclosing most of our run.
