Subtraction is hard but I managed to subtract 5 boys a week or so ago and 7 at the swap today. I feel like I'm on a subtraction roll lol. It doesn't matter though. I'm just making room the chicks that hatched last week and the ones that my broody will be bringing in to the world.
HI WING!!!!
Still don't know if the twerps are boys or girls. I did hear one of them doing a normal chicken type clucking, so there's that. It would help if I could tell them apart. Jaebels, the half marans half ameraucana is at the "looks like she was dragged through a hedgerow backwards" stage of her molt. Colleen, the Delaware that we took to the highland games, looks almost as bad. Right now, I am only getting one egg a day from the flock. I am not happy about that at all.
We removed the bumblefoot, scab and kernel, from my chicken today. It was gross but much better than cutting her. Soaking her foot for 20-30 mins did the trick. I put neosporin on the healing skin, and a gauze, then wrapped it. She will be kept separate for a week or two until it is all healed. Then we will do some of the other chickens. One at a time.
I checked them all over and out of 15, 5 of them have bumblefoot. The worst is a hen who has them on both feet. I was wondering if any of you know what causes it? So that I can try to prevent it from happening so much.
I’m no expert but I noticed that bumble foot only occurred in my chooks that were heavy and had high roosts. Once I moved them to a coop where the roosts were lower... No more bumble foot. I currently do not use the coop with the high roots, but am considering moving some bantams in there.
Need to say..... LMP, Yooper and Wing are IN THE HOUSE!!!
