We removed the bumblefoot, scab and kernel, from my chicken today. It was gross but much better than cutting her. Soaking her foot for 20-30 mins did the trick. I put neosporin on the healing skin, and a gauze, then wrapped it. She will be kept separate for a week or two until it is all healed. Then we will do some of the other chickens. One at a time.
I checked them all over and out of 15, 5 of them have bumblefoot. The worst is a hen who has them on both feet. I was wondering if any of you know what causes it? So that I can try to prevent it from happening so much.
..hello from Central Penn Mountains.

funny, the weight thing makes sense--but my only (fingers crossed) bumbly girl is a smallish gold laced Wyandotte--the hen I have from Martha has lovely feet and she is EASILY three times as big!!!(and GORGEOUS!!!!!) I heard that bumblefoot is just a staph infection from a scratch? It would make sense that it is worse in wet weather since bacteria love moist dark conditions. That’s what I was thinking. I plan on getting a new coop in the spring but maybe I can fix their perches soon to be lower and more comfortable for them. Always something!

Anyone?
The majority of this group lives more on the Eastern side of the state. I'm near Patton but that's still a good hour and a half or more from Pittsburgh area. Great area here.
Ohhh okay, that makes sense. Sorry!
I'm not sure what direction Patton is in but my mom has family in Erie which I think is like 2 hours from Pittsburgh? And some family in Beaver and my friend lives in Mars. We're in Massachusetts
