hope this one works...

Well, you know about the broodiness of the SPRs.... we crossed our SPR hens (average 5-6 lbs) with our giant white rock roosters (11-13lbs) and got gorgeous, huge hens (8+ lbs) who are now all going broody at 9-11 months... guess maybe that is a slight improvement since the SPR tend to brood by 6 or 7 months! LOL

Only problem with these big mix hens.... they are absolutely viscous about guarding their nests. Hubby gets a bloodied hand every day checking them for eggs. They must have gotten their attitude from the white rock side because our SPRs tend to be pretty mellow. Hopefully it is just first time broody jitters and they aren't as nasty next time.

Wow, that would be scary. I know Ana is super mellow and easy going with her babies, at least around us people. I have only experienced 1 nasty broody and that was a crazy duck. I don't want to see that again!

So I counted my chickens last night and notice is was down 1. Did not think much of it figured she was rusting in the barn. Well this morning I found a hawk under one of our big white pine tree eating something. I go out. Here it is my hen. She got killed yesterday. Not sure by what. It was close to the road. So I'm think some idiot was driving to fast again and hit her.
