So I counted my chickens last night and notice is was down 1. Did not think much of it figured she was rusting in the barn. Well this morning I found a hawk under one of our big white pine tree eating something. I go out. Here it is my hen. She got killed yesterday. Not sure by what. It was close to the road. So I'm think some idiot was driving to fast again and hit her.
so sorry :hugs

I count my chickens every night to make sure they're all locked up and safe. If not, I go on a hunt looking for them. I only have 15. I imagine it's hard to count when you have a hundred chickens though... Wonder how we'll manage that when we expand.

I gave up counting a long time ago. I honestly don't even know exactly how many I have at the moment  Somewhere around 50? But there are times that I notice if someone isn't around and I go looking. Usually, it's just someone trying to go broody where they're not supposed to

I checked last night, and it said nothing about snow. Then I woke to snow, and decided I need a new weather app.
Duckling sledded some, and did a few other snow related things. It’s nice seeing her and the dog play together. :love

I do need to get him to stop sitting on her on the couch though.

Same thing happened to me last night. We were in Altoona and started heading home about 8-ish. By the time we got to the top of the mountain, the snow was blowing like crazy and starting to lay on the road. Not a plow in sight and no salt the roads. It took us an hour to get home and the snow just kept getting deeper the closet we got to home. It was a little scary but we made it safe. Hubby had to make the same drive after work at 11 in his prius ( I at least had AWD). He made it but it was rough. He said there was still no salt on the roads and to plows anywhere. Does anyone else seem to be having trouble with a lack of plows around lately?

We have more plows this year. Being a part of the highway, we should be plowed, but this year is the best in the 13 winters I’ve been in this town.

We're having the opposite issue here this year. Every year that we've been here, roads were pretreated if snow or possible I've was coming and plows were out patrolling and salting in advance. This year, I don't think they even have the snow fences up and it's practically a miracle to see a plow out :/

Darn it, I have to remember to double latch the gate or Fenris can get through it. He got 2 of the old girls - my reliable broody was one of them. Maybe the hen we didn't let go broody will try again next year. If I can keep the danged dog away from them or get him trained to not go after them.
