Well the 10 remaining birds are not happy being cooped up in the run all the time, but at least they are alive. The one hen that lays green eggs is the only one laying at the moment. I figure the others will start soon. Clyde is really a roo - we had our first crowing the other day. I am not sure if I am staying with the names Inky and Pinky for the other 2 lavs or if I will go with Trixie and Pixie. Maybe Laverne and Shirley. Need something twin like because i can't tell them apart.
I do want to go to the show but don't know if weather and time will permit. Also, am recovering from cold that I got on top of the 48 hour flu. blah.

I love those little ducks! They are so much like Calls, but have no problems hatching (a major reason really good Calls are expensive) and lay a lot more eggs. And they come in 3 color varieties, like blue/black/splash chickens. The "green heads" look like snowy calls, the "blue heads" look like blue fawn calls, and the "silver heads" look like pastel calls. And I can hatch all 3 colors from 1 pen of ducks.

oh my..so many colors,so little time..hahaha
They definitely seem like the duck for our little homestead.
The new property has good water running through a small area, the possibilities with that are looking very good. There is a lot of work yet to be done.
Any ideas about having animals on the new piece are on hold for the time being.
Makes little sense to have animals there only to have to move them, plus the grounds just aren't suitable as far as I am concerned.
One step at a time. Really do like those ducks though, even DH was impressed...small size good egg producer, & a terrific bug eater, whats not to love?!
We have some serious slug/grub issues here at times, so nasty. All the extra rain fall hasn't helped.

All puppies have great homes waiting for them.
That is awesome!
Your shoulders have to feel so much lighter right now;). Very happy for you!

The pup we kept is 9 months now. She weighs 5 lbs...she has just started her first heat:th....she will not be bred so we will have things taken care of when this is over.
We are just getting through this with as much patients as possible. Her little dad is very much a gentleman as far as dogs go, but the poor guy can only handle so much...
he climbs up on my lap, gives a big sigh, looks at me like.."really?, how much longer?!", he listens very well, but has to be reminded from time to time.
We have taken precautions with them both, he wears a belly band and she has a "diaper", so absolutely NO "oops" here!
Little 'Lily' doesn't understand what is going on, she is not feeling herself and getting attention that is confusing, from her dog-mom & dad, plus she has to wear that silly diaper thing that keeps her from running and playing like normal....it is funny to watch her run though truth be told:smack...
I wish you great luck with your pups, enjoy the experience of your little ones..they grow up so fast!
It is hard not to get attached, but knowing they are going to good homes helps the process just a bit more. :love

Keep in mind 2 things. First, they are small and don't run as fast as chickens, so make sure they are protected from foxes, etc. Second, they can fly really well. It's was astonishing to me to see them almost hover in the air and fly around a shed and cricle back to land near where they took off from. They could be pinioned (cut part of their wing off) or feathers clipped, but I choose to keep them in covered pens, for predator protection as well.

Hope you are recovering well:hugs
We had black ice this-morning..it was an adventure not breaking our necks just taking the dogs out! the weather is so crazy ...not sure what to expect, it all hinges on the temps..rain, snow, ice..it all changes so quickly anymore:confused:
I like the name you've got going there...leaning towards the Laverne & Shirley, more cause of them being Lavs...can't go wrong with any of them though;).
Stay safe & get your health back under you!
Don't worry about your birds, they will adjust..maybe give them a boredom buster from time to time. If you need to let them out for a bit & are worried about the dog, how about a crate/cage for him?...just so he doesn't go bolting out the door at the girls...not like all day, but a little while so they can run a bit...Our kids take "naps" in their crates mid afternoon. By that time of day they are ready for a break & so are we, helps me to get a few things done without any distractions.
Just a thought:D

**thank you for this info..read that they are great flyers, but didn't realize/think about the running..guess that makes sense...they are ducks.
They would absolutely be protected by fence/enclosure...we just have wayyy to many predators around here for unsupervised free-ranging. Plus they would not be in eye shot like the chickens, they would have to be protected. Cameras would be an asset for that issue though.
I don't clip the chickens wings. I did with the first girls I had, only because I didn't have the housing they have now and didn't want them flying across the street to the neighbors birds. They are free range, she loses a bunch every year to predators. Coyotes are close around here even with her dogs that run their property. They are a very bold animal, especially when hungry.

Just out of curiosity, where did you move to? The farm right around the corner from us was just bought and moved in to. We haven't gone and introduced ourselves yet but it would be awesome if it was you lol

Now that is an awesome compliment!
Thank you!!
No, that is not us unfortunately. Would love to be an an entire farm, next to any number of BYC peeps, but we are happy with our homestead here.
We have not moved, but have purchased the property next to us (1 acre). All of the property surrounding us was once the original farm stead, our home is the original farm house 1890's.
I would love to incorporate all the land back into one piece again, but that would take the lottery! hahaha, so we are very happy to live with what we have right now.
The land needs a lot of work, like big machinery work...so we have a plate full. Had a full plate before the extra, but who is complaining?! hahaha
It will take some time & doing, but we are willing as long as the bodies continue to get up & go as best they can.
How much land do you have to work with?...I know a bunch who make a lot happen in a very small area.

Darn, oh well lol. We only have 1.3 acres, backed up to State game lands. We would've loved to buy the farm (50 acres) but couldn't afford anything like that. Maybe someday though. Maybe next weekend we'll go introduce ourselves. Our address was also once split between a couple farms. A couple of the kids from the original farm families still live here, though they'll all grandparents now. It's funny to see the family feuds that still linger between some of them lol
