Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I chased off 2 foxes this morning. They was coming from the feild across the road and I was out with my youngest waiting for the bus. I yelled at them and man you should have seen them stop and look then turn and run back across the feild. So I'm on fox look out. I was able to keep most of the chickens l and the ducks in. There is 6 hens and 1 rooster that was over in the goat pen. Hoping they stay in.

Didn't have water for a bit the last 24+ hours:rolleyes:..now boiling until notified.
Just using water to clean/bathe anyway. we will do the gallon-bottle stuff for awhile.
Still have huge canning/soup pots sitting around with water still in them just in case they have to turn off the h2o again...yeah, that happens too much around here. "we got er'fixed..oops, sorry, no we don't".

What we had to deal with 2 years ago was, well..fun:he. Our yard is still recovering & because the break..their break, our yard had 'fell'/sunk-in & whenever there is rain the area around our dogwood floods & around the berries...even with trying to fill-in.
We had lost most of our raspberry crop that year and all that moisture has introduced issues we didn't have before.

The backhoe they used to do all the wonders with, tangled our lights around the parking lot and pulled/broke them. Had to remove all, not replacing either.
It also broke up the black top we had at the entrance of the parking area. The tracks had mud all over them, so when they drove it through the lot all the stone stuck to it and we lost tons of rock...this happened more time than I can remember, they were in & out quite a bit & through the yard.
They did make it right though, DH wasn't about to have all that to deal with.

DH 'told':rant them they are replacing the line to our house so we don't have this issue ever again..it was the second time in 5 years our property received thousands of gallons of water flooding over it.
DH & the gentleman they hired to find the lines tried to talk them into changing the whole line to the main 'thing' ..we even offered to pay for the line if they just put it in ,they didn't, so here we are, again.

BUT..at least the break was NOT in our yard this year!!:wee, though I feel bad for the neighbors a couple yards over. :(They will have a of of work in the spring. Hopefully the township will do right by them & fix things up a bit.
The water is back on..yeah!!!, first thing I did was shower!!:bun That is the greatest feeling in the world!
We are so fortunate to live here, food-water-shelter & fun from time to time.
Sometime I need reminded of how fortunate I am..stil not cool when it happens, but for that moment, I am eternally grateful:bow:D.
Hope you all have a great day!..stay warm.

Sounds like a frustrating time for sure! Glad they did make it right for (most of) your yard, hope the berries dont suffer more long term consequences.

There is a "new" bug issue with berries here in the northeast now...I say new, it's not, but for the north eastern area it is. They believe most likely because the temps. & moisture overall are increasing and allowing bugs & other issues from the south to migrate further & further northward. It is a "fly" that lays it's eggs inside the developing berry, then when the berry looks ripe & ready to pick, it looks great, but if you crush or separate it a little a tiny whitish-larvae/worm will come squiggling out. It is not something anyone wants to see let alone eat!
Commercial producers are really scared of this because you don't even see them until you disturb the delicate fruit/berry. Raspberries do not have a good shelf life as it is, now these growers have to spray for things they didn't have to before. Washing raspberries doesn't work very well either. They become mushy very easily. Just picking the darn things can be frustrating!
The saddest thing is once something has made it's way to a new location, that is pretty much it. We are stuck with it. Just like the very real issue with peaches..mummifying right on the tree. We lost 3/4 of our harvest last year to it. Too much moisture ALWAYS allows for greater insect potential. We are very good about keeping areas in the garden and around the trees clean & debris free...just not much we can do about the moisture. Spraying now is our only option. We must choose our poison wisely.

Puppies all in their new homes. House is quite. They are all doing good.
So glad to hear they all found their new homes & all is well. Now you can recover from that adventure!

We got another good 3" here this morning.. DH is handling that so we are clear for the next round to come!
The temps are going to crash this week. Will have to keep the birds in most likely. If you have products to protect combs and wattles, now is a good time to apply. Before the freeze hits!
Staying warm inside with canning to get caught up on. Veggie & tomato soups, pasta sauce. Have a couple chickens to get into jars. Also making chicken soup to can so noodles or rice can be added when ready to eat.
All of this will take me the rest of this month into next to accomplish:old...but I cannot say I am ever bored!!
Have a great Sunday peeps.:frow

here is a website about these "flies". It is white fly larvae.
This for anyone who is growing fruit, this is going to be an issue if it isn't already...not a matter of "if", but "when", always this this stuff unfortunately.
