PSU extention is a great source of info for all types of pests. You can even sign up for their news letter on what's new.
This time of year I like to re-educate myself & DH on what is/has been happening in our gardens.
There have a lot of new & old pests that have made their way back to PA & all over the US. Since 2018, yes, just last year, this 'spotted-wing-drosophlia' has become a very real issue here.
It has moved so quickly across the US. It was first "noticed" in Michigan in 2008, if I remember correctly...only took 10 years to become a serious issue here:hmm..same with the fruit tree borers, heck even wasps/yellow jackets are affecting fruit production. The overly wet/humid/warm non-typical weather we have been experiencing is not just a pain keeping us indoors, it is affecting our food sources.
I am not trying to be a "Debbie-downer", sorry Debbies out there:oops:, just trying to share information. If anyone else is having issues or would like to share in their growing "pains" & triumphs, I am all ears:D
All this snow has me wishing for growing weather, hahaha...oh, the paper whites that I planted have started to bloom!! will get a pic of it tomorrow.:weeI can't wait to get my hands into the dirt again! Hard to tell huh?

there is a whole article on this particular bug. Has the proper insecticides to use, even includes organic sprays.
We are past the point of being able to go without spraying now, but if we do it smartly/properly, the effects on everything else will be minimal. We will still use non-invasive -homemade "traps". These are also good for identification of pests and in what cycles of maturing they are in.
Okay, enough about me/us:duc...anyone else???:pop

I had apples for the first time last year. The bugs got a few before I even saw the tiny fruit. I sprayed once, it rained for a few days, and the first day of no rain, all five apples were bumpy and marked with the proof of life within.
The deer didn’t complain though! :lol:

These are the nine remaining chicks. I lost so many last year, I bought extra. At first I wondered what I’d done. Then I wondered if I had enough. :lol:
I bought a BR I knew would pass. When it did, I saw it had wicked pasty butt. That can kill (six had it bad, one wasn’t much, and three were okay), but it isn’t what killed this one. I’m thinking it was squeezed by someone. When it passed, it had a trickle of blood coming out of its mouth, and more in its throat.
I’m looking for a bigger box. :lol: I’m hoping to avoid using anything I cannot burn.
 
Oh! Barred Rock, Rainbow, Welsummer, EE, RSL. I think it’s one Rainbow, two RSL (because I don’t believe they are RIR), One BR now, 2 Welsummer, and three “Ameraucana”
 
:barnie Another one gone. It was lethargic this morning, but was mad when I was done cleaning up its bottom.

I was hoping it was just a cute photo (okay, it still is), but then checked. I called the feed store to tell them to check bottoms.

I'm sorry they're dropping on you, that's awful :( I hope you don't lose any more!
