I've used blu-kote on my (white) Delaware chickens, it definitely helps!

Would the contrast of blue kote on a white bird be as bad as red exposed skin? There was a thread here that said that blue kote never worked on their lighter birds. Opinions, please?

Good reason to avoid white chickens!
Hawk predation is another reason. And they get dirty and dingy faster.

she's already 5 years old - and now I have 3 lavs. Light chickens, dark chickens, I have a mix.

Been trying to catch up here the last few days... I think I need a shortcut to byc on my phone so I can keep up!

Lots of spring things going on here... trying to get some very old seeds to germinate for my veggie garden and it's taking forever, I wish I would have remembered earlier in the year that I needed to update my seeds this year. They are mostly going on 4-5 years old at this point and I'm a lazy gardener and haven't stored them properly over the years.

We brought chicks home from Rural King last weekend... we were going to get 15 meaties but they gave us a deal if we took all of them since they were a week or two old already. So we got all 31 of them
We also told each of the girls they could pick a layer, but no one picked a silver laced wyandotte so I picked one too, lol... my SLW got killed by the raccoon menace last year and I need some eye candy in my coop Two of my girls picked little yellow chicks with black spots so they could call them Spot and Dot, they are California Whites which I had never heard of before. I hope they end up with some spots in their plumage. My other daughter picked a blue laced red wyandotte... she likes "chipmunk chicks". I put a dish in the layers bc they kept trying to sleep in their food dish and only 3 of them could fit. Today I'll be finishing up part of the playhouse coop and taking the stinky meaties downstairs so they have more space. Thirty one birds is way too many for this brooder... then the layers can get an upgrade.

With the alterations made to a prefab coop, it’s actually working great for the quail. They are happy on the ground, and the upstairs area is awesome for storing their food, treats and a jug of water. I will put some dishes in there when I get them all cleaned.

I moved to ducklings out in the coop. I made up a spot for them with a heat lamp. They made such a mess in their pool it had about inch of water under the sawdust.

Hey, @Auroradream26, any idea what is wrong? She’s moving around periodically, but I have not seen her eat or drink. I tried dipping her beak, but she didn’t drink.
In three hours, she pooped a little yellow spot, and then a few white drips. She will open her eyes if she’s watchful-like when she was sitting on top of the coop. She has some energy, crop felt okay when I brought her in. The weight seems good. Especially since she’s shy of five weeks.

Working on the playhouse coop and need to make a decision about this shelf before I screw all of the walls down to the plarltform... it has 16" of clearance under it, should it stay or go? The window above it will be the door to the run, so it could be a perch/extra standing area as they are coming and going. But, it's lower than the typical 2ft of head space I normally give when they are on the floor of the coop. It's already a small coop, I dont want to make it more cramped.
