I think I've raised some seriously spoiled orpingtons....i went out to close up the coops the evening and they all came running full speed FROM the coop to meet me, thinking I was going to have treats for them! At least they're super friendly! I think I'm in love with this breed :) It too some fancy juggling to get them all in and me out lol

My lavender orpington Hattie does the same thing. I have to make sure it is dark before I go out to close the coop or out she spills.

Have any of you guys had experience with an egg bound hen.? I think my poor Easter egger Banjo is suffering. She has been less active, and the other day I examined her and it seemed like her abdomen was very full and firm. I used a glove and some mineral oil to see if I could feel an egg internally, but I did not. I also felt her abdomen, and I definitely feel something firm like an egg, but it feels further back.

Tonight I decided to give her a soak (full 20 minutes), and give her some Tums crushed up, mixed with water, down her throat. I also tried to feel inside her vent again, but I can’t feel an egg. I did get some diarrhea shot out at me, so I guess that’s good. I also squirted some mineral oil inside her vent, I figured it couldn’t hurt.

I wonder if she has cancer, and I’m feeling “ acistes” and a tumor instead. She feels pretty thin along her keel as well. I dried her off and I have her isolated inside so I can monitor poops and food intake. If she doesn’t make it, I will definitely be doing a necropsy. Come on Banjo!

I've had both egg bound and salpingitis and neither had "full" feeling. I hope she pulls through and we will add her to our prayers. Best of luck.

Aww, poor girl :( I hope she pulls through for you! If she feels like she has water belly, I have heard that you can carefully drain it but I've never attempted it or tried it. Of course, that doesn't fix the problem, just eases the symptoms and maybe adds a little time to try to find the problem.

All of my young cockerels are leaving for a new home tomorrow. I just posted an add today offering them all free and someone decided they want them, brooder babies and all. It's going to be something like 20 of them lol. Guess they'll fill their freezer later! Less mouths for me to feed. Ana might be upset about it. All her babies will be going.

Thanks, I’ve heard that too, but I’m not that brave. I was just looking at a poultry magazine and they mentioned internal laying. I wonder if that’s it instead... I just checked on her and she did have a diarrhea poop. The poor thing seems to remain standing, she must be so uncomfortable. I’m considering euthanizing her. But I really like this one and I’d hate to end her too soon....

I'm sorry :( If it's internal laying, I don't think there's anything that can be done for her. It's horrible that the ones we really like are always the ones that something ends up happening to :/

Does she walk like a penguin?
