Most townships up our way do not have a full-time code enforcement officer & if they do they really don't take issue with the number of birds, whatever they are, unless someone complains about it.
Our local government runs on a "reactive" basis.
Dealing with complaints as they come....
Most people don't poke too much, because they are usually compiling "items" in their areas that would bring issue to them too.
*** "if you don't start none- there won't be none".
But then there are those that are completely devoid of anything interesting in their lives so they MUST start-up with others.

Question for anyone-everyone...
Going to be picking some dandelion today.
Never tried working with this plant before which is amazing in itself, hahaha, so no time like the present to start.
Would like to dehydrate for tea & use fresh leaves to add to salad.
Has anyone ever worked with this plant to eat or use medicinally?
Are there any issues with it that may not have been published that you have experienced in using it personally?
Not expecting any problems, but even the 'natural' stuff you have to take caution.

I don't think our neighbors will care about chickens at all, because there's huge distance between our yard and their houses. But you never know. These chickens are my son's pets and we cannot afford to lose them. I'll start with small and go big once our fence is up, so we are safe. I'll remove the frame inside the shed to turn the whole shed being coop and extend the run to about 20x40.

I never used dandelion before, but some of my friends cook it quite often. I didn't hear anything wrong about it. Dandelion is very healthy as long as you don't use any chemical on it. I would like to try it some day myself.

So we just signed a contract to buy a house at Port Matilda. Unfortunately, it's still in Patton Township, so only 4 chickens allowed. At least that's how many we have to start with. I think we need to build the coop and run and get them inspected before we can have chickens. I'll let Dennis know when we ready for chickens. I guess wouldn't be this year, since I will have to build the coop and run myself with limited help of hubby. I'm not handy at all! Have to figure out a simple plan to make a 30 square feet coop and 40 square feet run. this size limitation are ridiculous. Especially consider that we have over 1 acre round. My original plan is to buy a shed and frame a section for coop, and then add a run to attach to it.

Bug was helping me cut/pick dandelions.
Then she asked about violets, can we eat them...sure, the flower petals are good & not bitter. So she had a good time with those.
Have a good amount to start with. Even put a little in my salad for dinner today. Good stuff. Going to dehydrate the rest & use for tea. Will continue to collect as it grows this summer.

Bug helped me clean up the coop & change out the water. We have to put the 'yard-fencing' so they can come out & enjoy the grass.
DH trimmed & mowed this afternoon. That grass was long. Started to lose the dogs in it!..seriously!

she was trying to make a rainbow.

I currently live next to Bellwood, but just bought a house at Port Matilda. Don't have Chickens yet, but will get them soon. Patton township requires permit for chickens and have ridiculous size limitations for the coop and run. Even We have more than 1 acre, we only allow to have 4 chickens and less than 40 squire feet run+30 squire feet coop.

Oh no! That’s no good. Patton township is tough. We’re in Benner township and have close to 50 acres. Good luck and reach out if you need anything or a close chicken friend!

Our yard doesn't need cut yet, thankfully. It's a big mud pit! We went on the hike again today, not as many ticks this time thankfully! I sold off my adult brahmas today and cleaned the screen porch. I've got laundry to catch up on and fold now but I can have a glass of wine while I work on that

That's so true. I want to fence the backyard of our new house, so no one can see how many chickens we have. He believe that I plan to have goats and cows hidden there too. I said no, only chickens, ducks, and turkeys. Patton township has chicken regulations, but nothing for ducks and turkeys. Strange

Hahah get them all! My turkey is one of my best friends fence in the yard and go wild!

Thanks! I'm so happy to move back to center PA, although house hunting at State College area is painful. The house price is unbelievably high and increased about 20% in 2 years. And you have to offer more than asking price to get a house! We are lucky to find a house with a large enough lot to have chickens. We even have a fish pond, which most likely will become a duck pond.

New to BYC and first time chicken owner but have lived in PA all my life. Just moved to a small farm in Berks County in December and am excited to start my chicken flock. Got 12 chicks 3 weeks ago and they've already grown so much!! Just wanted to say hi!!
