I am stunned. I finally came around to the idea, but didn’t think it was a habit for anyone.
When/if you have time to tell me, how do you organize everything? Are the birds cut up on the table or by the sink? Do you do the killing outside? Do you do the hot water for plucking on the stove, or move the pot? Do you do a cold water dunk after the hot?![]()
Ok, I havea hot pot of water on the stove that gets moved to the sink for the hot dunk. After the dip, bird goes in the other sink, pot goes back on the stove. Bird gets plucked with feathers going in the sink where the pot just was. I keep a couple bags hanging from the handles on the upper cupboards and put all feathers, heads, feet and innards in. I process right there on the counter top, next to the sink so it's easy to clean everything up. Ziplock and bag in right in the fridgeOutside, i have two slip knot nooses that are always hanging from a low branch. I use the broomstick method to cull 2 birds and get them hanging to start with. While I process one in the house, the other just hangs there, letting gravity do it's job. When I go out to get that one that's hanging, I take another one out, cull, hang and take the one that's been hanging. It works out well for me that way.
I can't cull any of my pet chickens, lol! But hubby is a hunter and we occasionally butcher the meat in the kitchen... My question is, how do you sanitize everything afterwards? I'm a bit of a germaphobe and it bothers me to have dead animals in my kitchen!

I totally agree with the sentiment! This sucks... It was a very long week at work (74 hrs) and now I have a couple days off and the weather is so miserable!I’m trying so hard to not cry as the snow is falling down. I am just not ready for this.
