She is fine, and will take care of the chicks herself.
I agree, it would hep her though if you can get some hay in there for nesting material so her eggs are more protected from cold radiating up through the floor. You should do your best to mark the eggs somehow so you can pull any added from this point forward. Staggered hatches are problematic, to say the least, most of the year but in winter cold they are a recipe for tragic losses.

No way to get to the nest without moving the nesting boxes. My Mary (no Christmas jokes, that really is her name) knew exactly where to hide the eggs she didn’t want me to take! I think she is still laying, she was off the nest snoozing with the others when I locked the coop tonight (they crowd together into the nesting boxes to keep warm, my boxes are oversized), so if she isn’t sitting at night, that means she’s still building the nest, right? Honestly, she and Jesus have to handle this one, I just don’t think there is anything I can do to improve our chances for a successful hatch. Pray for us please! :)

On a related note, the other hens have decided they really do love their new coop. Since moving day up to 3 days ago, I was getting 1-2 eggs per day from 14 hens. 2 days ago it was 4 eggs. Yesterday it was 5. Today...11!! Not even counting Mary’s hidden nest, which I counted at least 5 eggs in this afternoon. Awesomeness!!:love

Now if only I could get them to lay IN the nesting boxes. Mostly they lay their eggs UNDER them. Maybe when they don’t need the boxes for warmth anymore, that might change.

Apparently my hens are cooperating on the broody nest. Mary came out to browse with the others today and I got worried. Then I realized one of my Brahmas, Deco, was missing. Guess where she was? Laying on the nest. She snatched a quick breakfast, then hasn’t come out for 2 hours. The other Brahma (Trusty, the dominant hen) keeps checking on her. I hope my girls know what they’re doing! I want baby chickies!:fl
