This is Tiger, one of @dheltzel ‘s Black Copper Marans. So far he is the first of the 6 to show a touch of copper on his cape. He decided to be friendly tonight, and spent several minutes cuddling with me. I am so in love with this chick! I think I’ve found my new breeding roo! :love He’s strong, healthy, assertive, intelligent, and has legs like a velociraptor!

Watching dheltzel’s brood mature, I’m starting to realize how little I know about sexing chicks. I wonder if Marans pop their combs young, I know my Pella (BCM pullet from last spring) has a rather large comb for a female. Most of my 9 Marans chicks are sporting combs, but something is telling me they aren’t all boys. We’ll find out before long, if Tiger is any indication! :love

Oh yes, marans pop combs early. You'll have a pretty good idea of how many boys/ girls you have before long!

He is so cute. Tiger, Blue Bear, and Winnie-the-Pooh, sounds like Dennis has a big zoo animal collection. :p

So spent last couple weeks organizing and contacting roofers to get quotes for redoing my barn roof. Met with the contractor who had the best bid this morning... nice fellow and price was a lot less than I had planned for (I had budgeted way high with hopes it would be less)
Since something finally ended up for the better now I am able to plan on residing and foundation work this year instead of waiting another year's worth of overtime...
The real shame of it is that the barn is 45x70... and doesnt house a single chicken! :idunno:gig
