Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Happy July 4th everyone! I have been missing in action since my house fire. You think it won't happen to you? I NEVER thought it would happen to me. I had the best brooder set up ever--in my second bedroom --a rabbit cage on top of a dog crate with the heat lamp on top. The room was locked. I loved it! The babies kept me company while I folded laundry and were SO socialized! We were outside with the dogs, seeding the lawn . My son got hot and went inside. After 5 miutes, he realized that the noise he heard was the smoke detector. Lost three rooms . Our 5 Cats hid together under a sofa, dogs were outside with us. I still don't know what happened, but it was the heat lamp. I will NEVER do a heat lamp again. Looking forward to visiting Dennis soon.
So sorry for the accident. I'm glad that everyone is ok. What chicks are you going to get? I'm still waiting for Dennis's sexlinked ameraucanas. But if there's none by end of August (I think he stops hatching by then), I'll have to take whatever chicks he has. I really don't want raising little chicks in cold winter. Finger crossed for the chicks being available! :fl

Thanks for the information. If he has eggs, Dennis will try to hatch some ameraucana and legbar chicks to replace my son's pets that were killed by a fox. I know he doesn't get eggs from these hens now. I can wait until next year if necessary, but I just hope he will have some this year.

There was a dead skunk in the trap. My story is that I smelled skunk last evening, maybe around seven. The last time the trap was definitely checked was Sunday afternoon. So, how is it dead? I thought it would take a few days.

Thank you Tilly. Dennis rarely has Amerucauna hens that for some reason didn't make the cut for his breeding program. I got three last year and they are gorgeous and lay blue eggs like CRAZY. It might be worth asking.

I just rearranged some breeders to try to get eggs to hatch. 2022 has been an experimentation year for sexlinked Ameraucanas and the Olive Eggers. So far, I am happy with the way the chicks have turned out. I acquired a Lavender rooster named Archie as few weeks back. He came from my stock that a customer bought several years ago, but is moving to somewhere she can't have roosters, so he came back to be a breeder male. Yesterday I put him with 8 lavender cuckoo and 4 black cuckoo (split for lavender) hens. I have gotten a few eggs already, but it takes a couple of days to get fertility. I hope to set a few eggs this Sunday. Most of the chicks will be lavender sexlinks, but a change of getting some black sexlinks.

I do have some older pullets and hens, but @TillyPeeps would prefer very young so her son can raise them from chicks.

Hi Everyone!

Looking for white silkie chicks/pullets in the philly suburbs area. i'm also visiting my parents in the lehigh valley next weekend.

My husband's favorite chicken turned out to be a roo, and he is devastated. He didn't even want her at first, but I told him if he wanted to get chickens-I was getting a pretty one. Well, he ended up bonding with the silkie instead of me. We can't keep roosters where we are, but I think he would love to have another silkie just like him.

Please let me know if you know of anyone in the area. Thank you! :)
