We had a Roo that chased my daughter. She picked him up and carried him around. She played with him like he was a baby doll. He lays down like a hen any time she comes near him now. She completely subdued him. It is actually quite funny. Completely took the aggressiveness out of him. She still picks him up all the time and rocks him like a baby.

I am new to this all (breeding genetics) but I amtrying to learn. My brahmas are the BIG ones. I am also curious about this leaking through thing? Due to the genetics?
I am super interested in genetics, did read through and do some research. . . .

. . . .which reminds me, anyone ever see the one site online to order the Chickens Genetics book. It looks like its from another country . . . .but is it. . . . .leary of scams. If you get time, check it out. I really want it, but . . .there is that funny feeling it might be a scam.
here is a website for chicken genetics http://kippenjungle.nl/Overzicht.htm#kipcalculator it has english on it. very informative

I am having a bad morning. I went to let the girls out, and found two eggs (after no eggs yesterday, ANY eggs makes me happy). One of them pretty much had no shell. I saw a partial soft shell, but this is getting ridiculous! I am pretty sure it will be fine in the Spring since she has only been doing this for a month or so (I mean imperfect eggs), and I occasionally get a good egg from her.
The next problem is that Red has been snapping at me. I thought I was imagining it at first when he would peck at the back of my boot (or occasionally leg). It was like he was bumping into me, and I ignored it. Then two days ago he actually ran at me in attack mode. I have never done a thing to stress him out. Never chased him, I always knew he was going to be my special boy. Is it a teen thing?
motorcyclechick. imo i would up the protein and more calcium. if it is just that particular bird, she may just may be a bad egg layer. my egg layers went through a time of little or no egg laying i upped .the protein and all is fine. if they just started laying they are to young to molt.
