Ok some of you have been following me and the bad luck I have been having with my flock. I lost Elmo my buddy about a week an a half ago. I have a hen that had the bad sore on her back. The hen with the sore is getting better I believe. I had to cut away the rotten skin from the sore and I have been washing it daily. No more smell and looks to be healing. She stopped eating two days ago but I learned of torpedo feeding and that has helped. She spends part of the day in Elmo's wheelchair which she loves and sleeps most of the time. She is awake alot during the night. Her poop is getting better. I stopped the antibiotic to give her system a break and start vitamin water which she drank about a cup today and now has a squishy crop. She is resting. Peanut my last rooster went lame on Saturday. Unable to walk, same as Elmo did months ago. Had him tested for parasites, which came back negative. I learned that Roos should not eat what the hens do an can cause health issues. Did not know this. I have started him on vitamin B an nutri drench to see if that is helps. If not better in a week I will have to put him down. I spoke to a chicken grower from Townline and they say you can vaccinate chickens but it is still no guarantee they will not get diseases. Organically grown is what people want and I am thinking now the lady I bought my first two roos from had the marek's (if that is confirmed) in her flock an they brought it to mine. One thing I learned is I do not know enough about chickens and their troubles.
