People actually stole eggs

If they had half developed eggs I don't think the chickens would eat them. He has 3 queensland heelers that guard the place(not that well though against humans apparently) but 20 eggs were gone in 1 night and no chickens gone if a predator got them then they probably would have killed the broody hen.

True, but not necessarily. I had a broody on a nest, only 7 eggs, but still. All her eggs disappeared, and she's just fine.

Yea, I kept losing eggs too. But I would find the shells on top on the coop. The chickens were fine so I thought a small critter of some sort. I set a trap (live) and caught my theif. A huge Raccoon, easily could have killed my chickens but didn't. Since he is gone I've had no more disappear.

There have been many posts on here about chickens/broodys eating developing eggs !! It does happend, ewwww !!!!

chickenman10: Instead of throwing rocks at that dude, climb your tree with a camera in hand. Take a picture of him on your property. Your dad needs "proof", voila, there's your proof.

Don't throw rocks, you might actually hurt the thief and then YOU would be prosecuted.

I can't believe that people really steal eggs, that's insane. I have had people try to steal my chickens, but that didn't last long.

I had a problem with this also, even accused my neighbor who we give eggs too, At the time I was missing about 8 eggs a day which was all that was laying. To make a long story short, I found my culprit! It was my chicken that was not laying sittin in there eating them! I fealt horrible for accusing. Anyhow if that turns out to be the problem and nt your neighbors, make alot of trips out to your coop to get eggs before the chickens do. Its the only way to break them from doing it!

Go to Walmart and try to catch when they have the $30 game cameras in. The will always have the more expensive ones, but they sometimes have the $30 digitals. Buy you one and set up it. Easy, fool proof and you will know exactly what is happening.
