What is it with people and dumping off or abandoning animals? I have a pretty yellow tabby female kitten in a cage in my garage right now because someone dumpedher on us this morning. I live in town near a busy highway. You would think that would be the last place someone would want to dump a cat. I need to find her a home ASAP. I live in southern michigan, near the indiana boarder. I already have a cat. So I can't keep her. And I can't turn her loose, because of the fact that she go's across the road, and has no concept of cars. If I can't find someone, I will have to try taking her to the animal shelter, and hopefully they won't put her down. Pm me if anyone in michigan or indiana is interested. Im sure she'd make a nice little house cat for someone.

The rabbits. I dewormed them. no more signs of bloat so far. Still have a couple that are ill. I think they may recover, gypsy, if you read this that little buck I was telling about is finally interested in some food. I still have to force feed him though. I hope he makes a full recovery.

also I have gotten every single dog I have ever owned the same way. Theyr were tiehr dumped, or the owners moved and left them. Thats how I got my little jack russel two years ago when a neighbor moved out from behind and turned her loose in the middle of town.

Yea, it's pretty disgusting the way people treat animals as property - to be used and disposed of like trash dumped on the side of the road. And some animal shelters don't make it very easy for people to surrender their animals. We have a shelter that charges like $50 to bring in an animal. That's obviously not going to work if the animal is given up due to financial hardship. As long as people let their pets breed randomly there will be unwanted pets overcrowding the shelters and not leaving room for people who truly can't keep a pet "in these difficult financial times". I, too, have 6 rescued cats and 5 out of 6 of my dogs are rescues.
Oh, and glad to hear there's hope for your bunnies!

Ugh, hate it! I got a sweet male kitten a month and a half or so ago because someone tossed him out the window of a moving car. I took him in for his first shots and the next appt is for the 'big snip'. He's a sweety and I don't understand why anyone would just toss him that way. I was too busy trying to get to him to get the license number, though I wish I did take the time, the kitten wasn't going far... he was too tiny.

He's a happy kitty now though!

Glad to hear the little buck is heading toward recovery. fingers crossed he pulls all the way through and turns out to be a show stopper.

I hear you on the dumping of animals, thankfully its been quiet here as of late.
No snakes, no lizards, no birds, rabbits kittens or pregnant cats, no puppies either.

The way this economy is going more and more people are just dumping animals left right and center,
the thought process seems to be " I cant afford it" so they think someone else should be able to, so far from fact and all it causes is more pain and suffering. its disguxting and degrading to themselves and the animals left to a cruel fate.

Whats truely horid and dipicable is a link a friend posted on my, myspace about a little 6 month old in NM. Baby Brianna. I cried like a baby, and I am not ashamed to admit it
I wont post the link on here but you can PM for the link but I have to warn you it is VERY Graphic and you have to have a very very strong stomach and a very strong mind to keep this from letting you not sleep at night.
I will say the Parents are a lesser form of animal than even the lowest life form.
When a grown Police Officer is reduced to an ocean of tears its very bad.
Between animal abuse child abuse and elderly abuse it appears to be more rampant now than it has ever been.
Some days I want to crawl under a rock and pull the world over my head.
most days I just hate people.

Can you post a picture of the kitten? Also, would you be willing to meet somewhere in MI? I'm in Holly, but I work in Auburn Hills. Are you sure it's a female?

Hi. Guys. Wish I woul dhave seen this earlier. Rabbit breeder friend of mine took the cat to her farm. So she has a home.

Oh my gosh gyspsy! How can somebody dump a baby. i don't want to knwo the details yet. I will pm you when I am ready.

Yes the buck is recovering. I gave him some corid. He pooped out some jelly and has started eating since then. So is the one I brought home.

Unfortunately I had to euthanize a fryer rabbit yesterday that had the same symptoms the others have. I have another that was around it that may be coming down with whatever it is. I don't think this is over yet. I went ahead and medicated my fryers. So I am scratching buthering them for now. I got a guy that will take them at an october show as meat rabbits, when they are ready. They should be done with any meds by then.

The lady that took the cat told me that she lost 150 guinea pigs two years ago on kent feeds. That the local rep got nasty with her when she told him about it. So she sued him, and got the $1500 back she ha paid for the feed.

So that makes me wonder, if it was the feed after all? I know the farm place (whom I will no longer sell rabbits to. they are jerks) feeds armada which is lower in fiber then manna pro. And so is the kent. So that may be what triggered the problems in the first place.

As far as dumpings go, its going to get worse with the economy the way it is.

Thebritt, I don't care if they allow them to breed. I just don't want them dumping them off at my doorstep! I don't believe that all shelters are full of unwanted animals because people allow them to breed. Most are there because of people letting them run free, or dumping them in places where they shouldn't be. Most of the animals that go to our county shelter are strays that are picked up by animal control.

This is the second at I have dumpe don me in a year. Though over the years I have had dozens of dogs picked up due to people letting them run loose, or dumping them off in town.

Portage girl, glad your kitty found a good home. He sounds like a sweetheart.

Dumping the baby like people dump animals would have been kinder than the baby went through.

Glad the buck is coming around.
I have to agree on the feed being the issues with this particular type of toimia,
its also one of the reasons I do not switch from a proven tried and true grain.
losing one or two rabbits to a grain switch over can be concidered normal any thing over 5+ losses is a red flag the grain isnt doing its job correctly.
You would hope all feeds are created equal but sadly it isnt the fact.
I know with chicken feed one brand isnt equal to another, I feed agway layer crumbles, after trying the Tractor supply brand Dumor(put out by Purina) I switched back, they hated the feed, wouldnt eat anything but sctatch grain, went back to agway brand and they are back eating fine and laying again.
I have always been a, find out what caused the issue type person , there is always a reason when something like this goes bad. usually its a feed issue.
So sorry this is happening hopefully you nipped it fast enough to save the rest of the herd.
raising rabbits for show and quality isnt easy to start with and a bad feed makes it 100 times harder
