People biting rooster...need advice

Well now I had some Del roo chicks that were biters and I was advise to hold their beaks shut. I was alos advised to pick them up and carry them around which I did. They stopped biting fingers that is.

Now some roosters are biters by nature. RIR seem to have that problem. I would try picking him up and holding his beak shut. A little petting at night before bed for all the birds at bed check time. Of course you talk to them too.

If that doesn't work maybe walk around the yard singing "Shall we kill the old red rooster when she comes, hack, hack!" shall we kill the old red rooster when she comes, hack , hack!, shall we kill the old red rooster , shall we kill the old red rooster, shall we kill the old red rooster when she comes. " Also it might help to make a chopping motion with your hand.

Hope he stops soon or get another. Probably a Delaware.

OP, sorry for my sense of humor.

The main thing is to show him who's boss, gently but firmly. Let him know your not a threat to his domain and he may warm up to you and your mom.

Horsefeatherz, you know I love ya.

Rancher, I thought that was very funny! But honestly, look at all the roos people are giving away -- most of them just fine and without vices, other than crowing or being overcrowded. Nasty roos are made for soup -- stoo can pick out a very nice rooster on BYC or even Craigslist for free and have chicken soup with the bully.

Irresponsible? No. It's a mean roo that needs eating. It can't be much of pet if it's that big of a bully.

Thanks everyone! Some really funny posts too, I was LMAO! He was at it this evening big time. I had trouble getting all my chores done. He always wants to be with me. Sometimes he even flys up on my back when I am bent over filling waterers. He did that several times tonight. The ducks and chickens are in seperate pens and houses now. The duck and this roo have bonded or something because they always want to be together. They are both males. The duck is a looney toon too because he has no interest in the female ducks - only the chicken hens!! My hens are very happy that he's on the other side of the fence now. LOL, my title was misleading, I didn't notice that until someone said something about it. It got a lot of readers/replies

I have plenty of roos. I need to get rid of some, so it's not like I need this one. It's just that I've never had a roo act like this, all my other guys are just as nice or nicer than my hens. I can't figuire this roo out - he's wacky...a tooney loon.

I don't eat poultry. They are pets to me. I couldn't live with myself if I gave him away for food - I gotta do something though and I surely don't want him to mate with my hens because I don't want another crazy roo! Keep giving me ideas/help - I'm going to try some of the posted ideas right away.
Thanks again folks!

A light cuff across the head will usually teach a roo to not peck you. It doesn't really seem to hurt them but it sure surprises them enough that they think twice...you don't have a beek but you do have a hand that can react just as quickly.

I had a RIR roo that bit me once when I reached to take one of his ladies off the roost...I cuffed him immediately. The next hen I reached for I noticed the roo had tucked his head under his wing...he wanted no more of this business!

That was the last time I had to correct that roo for any infractions.
