People can be so cruel...

Quote:
I'm sorry, but you have to call a pit bull and pit bull... It's the name of the breed: American Pit Bull Terrier. Granted, many dogs are dual registered with the American Staffordshire registry as well. Calling a pit bull a staffy is ridiculous, esp if it's not. As rose by any other name...

The following breed registries accecpt the APBT into their registries:

NAPDR = North American Purebred Dog Registry
UKC = United Kennel Club
NKC = National Kennel Club
ADBA = The American Dog Breeders Association Inc.
CKC = Continental Kennel Club
APBR = The American Pit Bull Registry
APRI = American Pet Registry Inc.
ACR = American Canine Registry

No animal is born mean, just like humans they have to be turned that way.

Might want to rethink that statement as it's not true.

Shelters and the people who work there are doing the best they can in an impossible situation. Between breeders and others who have litters w/out neutering are all a huge PART of the problem. Some do it for $$$ and others do it out of ignorance......

Am. Staffs as a breed are accecpted into the following registries:

FCI = Fédération Cynologique Internationale
AKC = American Kennel Club
CKC = Canadian Kennel Club
NKC = National Kennel Club
NZKC = New Zealand Kennel Club
CKC = Continental Kennel Club
APBR = The American Pit Bull Registry
ANKC = Australian National Kennel Club
APRI = American Pet Registry Inc.
ACR = American Canine Registry

Remember that the dogs can be dual registered....

I was told that pit bulls were given the name because of the "pits" they were fought in. (don't know that for sure, but it's just a tid bit to pass on.)

I am the proud owner of a pit. He is sweet, loving, extremly playful, and will guard his chickens,and goat, and quail, and the little chicks (australorps),with his life. he will get all uptight and come and tell me if he sees out the window that there are birds too close to the pens, (usually picking up what ever tidbits I dropped. )

he won't attack the little birds, he likes to bark, one loud bark, and watch them scatter. And then he makes sure that "his" animals are all OK.

I know that being a pit owner, there is a lot of responsibilities, that most people don't realize that. they need extra care, and training, attention,(especially attention.) and they are stubborn. Mine is super smart, but stubborn as heck.

When people realize that they have their hands full, or did not train them properly, they just take them to the shelter. the sad part is if they don't pass "the test" and most untrained pits don't, they get put down.

what I mean by extra attention is pitbulls go through seperation anxiety. if you leave them alone, they tear the house apart. we tried and tried to break him of that, and well, instead of leaving him at home, he rides with us. even if left alone in the truck, he won't tear anything up. he knows if he does, he won't get his fishy cookie.

my pit could have been a show dog. he's absolutly beautiful. He gets all kinds of comments, and we get asked if we breed him. I won't. i wouldn't want his pups fall into the wrong hands, and I don't what to be responsible for that, no matter how much $$$ the pups would bring in.

we also live by a long dirt road, that has no houses on it. it is the place where everyone likes to dump their unwanteds. I have seen many starving dogs, dead cats, pigs, yes pigs...it is cruel. and yet, no one really does anything about it. (a large majority of the dogs I have seen are pits, most likely because it tore up someone's house.)

so people please, if one conciders getting a pit bull, one needs to concider the giant responsibility that goes a long with it.
otherwise they wind up as another sad posting.

ok, my bad
my "pit Bull" is not actually a pit-bull, he is an am-staff terrier. The area where I am from, anything that looks like one, well, it is concidered as such.

so, I corrected my self, hopefully not to cause confusion.

If everyone would spay and neuter their pets, and quit breeding irresponsibly there wouldn't be blue eyed drop off's that get euthanised.

I have cats because someone dropped off a very pregnant cat on our road.

I visited the animal shelter in our county, thinking maybe I could place my kittens there. I was shocked at the condition of the cats, sick were in with healthy. I got home stripped in front of the washer and washed my clothes and took a shower before touching ANY of my animals.

I then devoted an entire paycheck to spaying and neutering and shots for 5 cats, two of which have since dissappeared.

We should be responsible pet owners for any animal and stop breeding just to have cute babies.

There *phew* off my soapbox!!

Saying a pitbull bites is like saying people with ___ eyes will yell at you (left it blank because I don't want to accidentally offend people)
Some people are so ignorant!
