People who work at feed stores are not always so smart!!

Quote:
I believe that there was ONE leghorn who did lay over 365 eggs in one year... and she's in the Guinness Book of World Records for it... It's in Storey's Guide.... I red it yesterday... let me look...

"The greatest number ever laid, according to Guinness, was 371 eggs produced in 364 days by a prolific Leghorn in 1979 at University of Missouri"

Found this too...

"After many years of research effort, this project reached
fruition in 1979 with a genetic line of Leghorns having
annual hen-day egg productions exceeding 100 percent.
In fact, the outstanding record of one hen (nicknamed
“Super Chicken” by the media) was recognized in the
1984 Guinness Book of World Records. This “Super Chicken” was credited with laying a normal egg every day for 448 consecutive days."

But the guy at your feed store was still a dumba$$

The guys (and gals) at the feed store south of us are idiots as well. I used to have an elderly, underweight Great Dane that I adopted from the local humane society. As Quality Farm & Fleet was bought out by Tractor Supply, there was a 4-5 month gap that I couldn't get Pro Plan dog food (no PetCo in our small town). So I went to the feed store and asked if they had Pro Plan Senior. The guy told me no, just use weight management. Old dogs tend to get fat, he told me. I told him it was for an underweight dog who couldn't digest food well. The LAST thing she needed was reduced calorie feed! I ended up driving an hour south to PetSmart to get her dog food. Last time I went there the same guy told a woman that "scratch will be fine" for her chickens. Granted, I don't know her whole setup, but it sounds similar to what you experienced.
