PEOPLE WITH GOATS!!!

That makes alot of sense, were you accepted at the craft show in Nov? I will look forward to meeting you then. I haven't seen you on the forum lately, you must be rather busy getting your soap ready for the holidays. Best of luck with that.

Yeah you'll see me at the show if you come. I've very excited. I have A LOT of soap making to do to get ready. It's a 3 day show so I'm bringing about 500 bars of soap and I'm creating a lot of new products to take as well. Like a goats milk bath sachet. I'm going to make some this week and test them out.

LOL!

Yes, you can usually find breeders online through the NDGA. They will let you know if they offer frozen semen, and it's not terribly difficult to learn to inseminate your does, from what I understand. Just a long, flexible pipette on the end of a syringe...that's what it is for horses, too LOL! Of course, you know you'll have to breed your does to get milk, and bottle raise the kids if you want to collect very much milk from the does...right? Some people DO share milk the does, but you can't take very much milk from them in that case at one milking.

Check out www.goattalk.com it's a great site with LOTS of helpful hints. Also, fiascofarm.com will be a great reference.

Yeah I know I'll have to breed them to get milk but I didn't realize I'd have to bottle raise the kids. What do you mean by "share milking" them? I looked at goattalk but it seems they're more interested in talking about politics and I don't like that. I have checked out fiascofarms.com and that site is GREAT. They have pictures of goats having babies and everything. It's a wonderful site.

Edited: I'm not saying anything bad about goattalk.com, they are a great site about goats, I'm just saying they talk about "hot topics" and I am trying my best to stay away from that. They're just not the site for me. I hope it's not wrong for me to say that.

Well right now I have my goats separated into 3 different pens. My main goat pen is probably about 2 acres and they have a run in shed that's probably 30x20, when it gets colder I have another place I may move them to that is probably a 1/2 acre and has a 20x20 stall. Then I have 4 does in my back yard, they have a shed about 8x12. And lastly I have my bucks/bucklings in a yard that's around 1/3 an acre and they have a dog house, which will work find for the nigis, but I will have to find something else when the nubian gets alittle bigger (he's 3 months). Sorry I don't have any pics right now.

I don't have any Oberhaslis, but here's a pic of my LaMancha, Grim, when he was little!

And a more recent one mixed in with some of his friends. This is the main goat pen, you can see a tiny bit of the shelter in the corner of the pic.

Every site isn't for every one...no offense taken! I stay off hot topics as well...

Share milking is when you allow the kid(s) to nurse and you also milk the doe. I am not terribly familiar with this - you would have to ask the experts how to go forward. Most of the time, the kids stay with momma 5 days to 2 weeks, and then are weaned to bottles. This way, they get the colostrum they need, then you can freely milk the doe without worry.

I am a member of Goat Talk and they are a great group. You can avoid the hot topics and just talk goat. You can also just email one of the mods and not post on the group if you prefer. It helped me a lot. But it is your decision. Fiasco Farm is a great site as well. I use it often. I raise nigerian dwarf goats, but most of the info will fit no matter what type you raise. Email me anytime if you have questions.

Thanks y'all for all the info. Now I'd still like to get some ideas on housing so if anyone has a picture or 2 to post that would be great. Or if anyone has a link to a site about goat housing that would work, I can't find any sites about housing.

They are all very helpful and friendly.

I secure my goats at night so predators don't get them. Here's a pic. there are two separate stables in there.

Here is a closer look with the hay stand. I don't have the box fan in there anymore - that was when it was in the 100's in August.

Goats love to climb on things and to hang out off the ground if they can:

The goats and chickens get along fine. In fact my goats will protect me from the rooster:
