people with house chickens

I was supposed to have 2 hens...oops on the breeders part. But I noticed by 4 mos the color of their noses were different and not changing to match. Confirmation when he started crowing at 5 months. Now is a doting mate. She is very timid without him. They follow me everywhere, but esp outside. I just have to watch my dogs. My cats are scared of the chickens lol

We have a zoo. LoL 5 cats- 2 outdoor, and 3 dogs with the Pair of Silkies, 2 RIR and an EE. I want to add more when Georgia weather warms up and I have a tractor for the laying hens I have. I would like Australorp, Isa Brown, and another EE and 2 barred rocks. I plan to start selling our eggs.

They are amazing if you don't mind cleaning up after them, they are very loving and they have a lot of personality. .. They are almost like a dog. Whenever we are eating she begs for some by getting as close to the food as possable , she will snatch some if she gets to close. She follows me around the yard, when i get up in the morning and she heres me she will call to me, till i come give her a big hug.. She can be fresh and nip especially if your wearing anything shiny like a ring or any kind of jewelry... She likes to spar with your shoe.. She attacks it and expects it to attack her back,.. We just gently nudge her with our shoe and she thinks its attacking her.. She picks at my dogs fur he's a pekingnese, but they are known to play with larger dogs that are gentle..... She will peck at your eyes if you get close enough.. Cuz they are shiny... If i take a nap during the day sometimes she demands that i come down stairs and take a nap with her. U till i do she calls for me.... Hard floors are not good for there joints or feet..... So i have mine padded with bath rugs covered with vinyl table cloths for easy cleanup...she eats out of elevated dog bowls.. Shes a messy eater.. Every morning she will have a loose poop that smells like the devil! But after she gets it out shes fine.. I think its cuz she has been sleeping all night instead of eating so theres not much food in her to process a firm poop...male turkeys are not safe around small animals.. Small birds or small anything... They are known for stomping there own chicks.... Im not shure if a female can do it but i wouldn't trust it.. My turkey lives with a house chicken..... And i got to go to work now so ill end it there... Oh and if you don't entertain them they will find something to get in to themselves. For example... This is what happens when a turkey eats red tissue paper when your at work. Shes my little scientist!

I have two toms, one MW (my "boyfriend" Sarge) and one Narragasett (Nigel), a BBB hen (Edith) and a MW hen (Melissa). They are NOT house turkeys, but Sarge would like to be. ;) He is VERY affectionate and yes, turkeys are much like dogs, wanting attention and following me around the yard; Sarge more so than the others.

They free range and coop up at night with my flock of chickens. I also have ducks and geese...plus the House Silkie and two hens which spend the days outside but "coop up" in the People Coop every night.

As Ilovemyturkey said, Tom Turkeys can and do stomp smaller animals, including chickens on occasion. :(

Turkeys have such interesting vocalizations, far beyond the tom's infamous gobble. Toms MUST have the last "gobble," too, in any conversation. A lot of sound and/or events can trigger a gobble-fest.

I'm not going to tell Sarge about Lurkey!

Do u have a pic of Sarge! I wanna show lurk! She said shes available...lol. :love

Sarge MW and Nigel Narragansett in the snow over the first week of this past December. Sarge was hatched during the first BYC Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-a-Thon 2012 and Nigel was hatched May 7, 2013 for this past CDM 2013 Hatch.
