people with house chickens

So far so good, PBGGG. I didnt think the towel would help because I have to warm them with a heat lamp. Its working with the towel over the top of the lamp, but I am shutting it off and turning it on to keep the temp fairly warm. Its within eyeshot so the towel wont get too warm. The quiet is so peaceful!!

About picking him up, I would do it only a few times a day. Cogburn has been an outside animal until Saturday when he came inside because he was sick, too. When he starts freaking out, I pick him up and hold him until he calms down. A couple hours after he came inside, we were able to hold him and cut down his nails. It was the first time he ever had his nails cut because they were growing sideways. I would get your chickens used to being handled so its not impossible to cut them when the time comes.

Good morning, everyone!

Question: Those of you who have roosters... How old were they when they started crowing? If you could also include breed, that would be awesome. Trying to figure out if I'm the only one with extremely early crowers.

Thanks :)

My Rhode Island Red (when I had him) started crowing at about 7-9 weeks. He was a late bloomer compared to his brothers though. Roosters typically start crowing between 4-10 weeks.

I took a picture of Sunni wearing her scarf that I made her. It is identical to the one that I made for myself. Too bad she doesn't like it... :( It's so stinken cute on her!

Awwww! That's adorable!

See, I thought that crowing happened around 5 or 6 months for most breeds.. At least that's what I've read...

Phantom started crowing at 8 weeks, which I was told is very young... Then, my evil little frizzle started crowing at 4 weeks.. Now, one of my d'uccle babies has started. I think he's about 5 or 6 weeks. It's so cute to hear them trying to crow when they still peeping. Hahaha.

The two remaining cockerels that I have didn't start crowing until they were about 16 weeks old. We had one of our cockerels taken by a bobcat and both of our remaining roos started crowing the next morning. it was kind of weird.
