people with house chickens

I NEED DIAPER HELP! Tried to put Wobs in her training diaper for the first time today - and it was a total disaster! She positively freaked out. I know the first time is always hard, and I used many peas to help assuage the situation, but I don't want her to hate me. She already flips out when I go to pick her up.

Any fellow house chicken/duck owners that have already gone through "potty training" that can offer me any advice? I already posted this in the duck forum but no one replied. ><;;

You have NO idea! Wobbles had her first peas a few days ago and when she gets them she loses her mind!

So far I've just been putting her into the harness for, like, 20 minutes at a time then taking it off, once or twice per day. She's getting to the age where poop i s starting to become a slightly bigger problem so I want to get her used to it ASAP, but not if she's gonna hate me for it!

Man, this really is like having a human baby. It's rough. :p

But hopefully just a little time to get used to it and pea bribery should work

and more work than a human baby...they only complain when their diaper is dirty...LOL!!!

I'm so mad and upset. The rooster, 4 hens, and 6 chicks are all dead from next door! The chicks got picked off one by one, then the adults got picked off and now there is only one hen left that comes around. I'm trying to catch her so I can bring her down the street where our friend lives with the other chick. I'm just so mad and upset that they're most likely dead.

seriously irresponsible of them to have chickens if they aren't going to take care of them

Poor hen is probably scared to death by herself!!! Hope you catch her quickly

Our first diapered baby was a 2-3 months old Silkie pullet. I made her diapers and had to keep adjusting them as the first was so big she walked right out of it. After some adjustments the fit was correct but she kept walking backwards. My DH took hold of the elastic straps across her back and gently pulled her forwards to get the hang of not going backwards. She was a smarty and caught on pretty quickly. However each time we put the diaper on in the morning we had to pull her forward to get her walking again. After a day in diapers she toodled around inside and outside the house just fine.

The second juvenile was a 3-month old Leghorn and we had to nudge her forward to understand that walking is a forward and not backward motion. She did pretty well after the initial pulling forward on the elastic straps.

Our third juvenile was a 3-month old Ameraucana (my avatar) and she absolutely refused to move or eat as long as the diaper was on her. She moped sitting down all day - wouldn't eat, drink, walk, or stand in her diaper. After a week we gave up and just kept her in the 4x4 pen inhouse. She loved interacting with us but NOT with the diaper on.

Just like with individual children you have to adjust and figure what's best for you and them.

Those neighbors must be having some serious family issues to so totally ignore their animals' safety.

Oh nevermind! They are back!! I haven't heard or seen them in days but this morning the rooster and 3 hens were here!!
